Freshly transferred from NERV's Tabgha Moon Base to its branch in OCU Japan as a reserve Evangelion pilot, expert on aliens and monsters, and technical administrator, few know what to make of Kaworu Nagisa. Between his ethereal appearance, detached friendliness, and penchant for the philosophical, many might call him downright weird--which might in turn explain the persistent hostile rumor that he's a Coordinator. This doesn't seem to bother him. Open, easygoing, and with the patience of a saint, Kaworu is always quintessentially himself. Humanity fascinates him in all its forms, which for some reason he refers to collectively as Lilim, but he has a particular regard for Shinji Ikari, the pilot of Unit-01.

Lilim

Kaworu refers to humans as "Lilim." For most people, this is an unfamiliar term. What do they think of it, and him for using it?

Shinji Ikari: Knows that "Lilim" refers to humans, because he asked Kaworu and Kaworu told him. Does not know that Kaworu isn't human (though he's gotten the sense that Kaworu doesn't think of himself as human), or what the etymology of "Lilim" is. Has assumed it's a colloquialism from the Moon or wherever Kaworu is from, though Kaworu would not confirm or deny this. Asuka Shikinami Langley: Didn't recognize the term. Refused to ask because she didn't want to come across as ignorant. Filed it away for later. Rei Ayanami: Hasn't come up yet. Orpheus Zevon: Is used to it. Akane Shinjo: Knows that "Lilim" refers to humans and that Kaworu himself is not one (because he said so), though she doesn't know what he is instead. Alexis Kerib: Already knows all about it. Ruri Hoshino: Noted the term as an unfamiliar one, but didn't ask about it because the conversation was about something more immediately important. Eisen Daiwel: Thought Kaworu was making Biblical references. Approved. Did not question further. Jude Espella: Mixed up the term with its original meaning ("night spirits") at first, but dismissed it. When Kaworu asked her what she thought of Angels, she thought he meant the Biblical messengers of God. Zoia Surovy: Doesn't understand what it means. Wonders if it refers to a minor ethnical group in Japan, like the Ryukyuans or the Ainu, that she otherwise hasn't heard of. Lucine Azul: Mixed up the term with Lilium, or lilies. Thought Kaworu was poetically referring to humans as lilies.
