Eight Orlodhari has had an eventful career since she joined up with Londo Bell in 0094. From Comms Officer to Captain and then to rebel Captain, she led her ship and then helped to lead the Three Ships Alliance through numerous battles and conflicts. Now, she seems to have settled down, taking up a position as Admiral of the Magallanica Defense Force--the defense force for the small colony in which she has chosen to live with her growing family. There are rumors: they center around why Magallanica needs a defense force iin the first place, her Cyber-Newtype history with Axis Zeon, with her persistent ties to modern Zeon through the Kadun family, and her association with the mysterious network known to a select few as Terminal. Battleship commander, mother, and diplomat, Eight has many hats and is a notable figure in the Earth Sphere's political makeup at this time.
Background
Public knowledge of Eight York's background indicates that she has been in the Federation military since a little after her high school graduation, in 0094, and prior to that she was a resident of Winter Wonderland for about ten years. This is where information on her history dries up, however; the records simply aren't there to explain where she was before the age of nine or ten.
However, her service record is exemplary already; formerly the Comms Officer on the Ra Mari, Eight York became Captain during a series of tragic incidents about the Winter Wonderland colony, during which time nearly all of the senior officers of the ship perished. Her quick thinking and readiness to lead earned her a promotion, and the ship she'd saved.
Since becoming Captain, she has seen the Ra Mari and her crew through many battles, against foes from Angels to Zeon remnants. In a batle agains he Vajra the Ra Mari was so damaged that she was refitted with powerful new weaponry, and since then Eight has continued to see her ship through operations planetside and in space.
As it turns out, though there appear to be no surviving records of the project, Eight York was Eight before she was a York, the only known survivor of a Cyber-Newtype project by an unnamed Zeon scientist. After the disaster of 'Operation Spitbreak', rumors of this fact began to spread first on her ship and the through the Federation military apparatus in general. It remains to be seen what will come of these facts, but she has been spending more of her leave time investigating rumors of old labs...
In the Denver Colony incident, Eight learns more about her past. With the information gathered there, including the name 'Dimara Kadun', Eight turns to the Yumi Foundation, and they track down her birth family. She begins to make connections with her grandmother of the same name, and goes into the New Year weighing how to mix her past and present.
In early 0097, during a failed attempt to invade the United Emirates of Orb, Eight York officially goes rogue with her entire crew, defending Orb and founding the Three Ships Alliance with her own Ra Mari II, Nergal's Nadesico under Yurika Misumaru, and ZAFT's Eternal under Lacus Clyne.
In the wake of establishing the 3SA, the Ra Mari II engages in diplomacy with various spacenoid factions; a meeting-turned-ambush sees the 3SA meet the Garencieres... and begin to play host to the Sleeves, thanks to the maneuvering of Full Frontal. Eight is suspicious, but sees benefit in opening diplomatic talks, and does her best with the situation.
As it happens, the tensions prove too much, boiling over in mid 97 after a member of the Sleeves--Zoltan Akkanen--inflicts catastrophic damage on a colony. The crew of the Ra Mari II begins to train in case of Sleeves attack, and when the Sleeves learn of their preparations, it becomes a pitched battle.
After this battle, Eight finally cements her maternity leave, having become pregnant not long after they started negotiations with the Sleeves in the first place. However, she continues to be involved in the search for Laplace's Box, as well as in the rescue of Puru-1: Leina Ashta.
With Laplace's Box found and understood and Leina rescued, the situation at Magallanica eventually resolves, putting the Three Ships Alliance in negotiations once again with the Federation. Eight despite her attempts to be on leave spearheads these negotiations with Mineva Leo Zabi.
Things take a complex turn when the Denver Colony activates again--and Eight nearly loses Rena Lancaster in the course of the battles that take place next. Only nearly; through the combined efforts of many, Eight appears to Rena and helps her break free, and then as a whole they put the spirits of the Colony to rest. Eight makes a promise to live for herself as well as for the fallen members of Rhella Kan Zeitun's Cyber-Newtype programs.
Unfortunately, this does mean that her wedding is cancelled, but she still makes plans to have a smaller event and simply celebrate it later, when she's less busy and less pregnant. Her children are very close to on the way in the later months of 0097, and what will happen next is anyone's guess. it looks like it might be peace for a while, though.
In that potential 'peace', Eight took the opportunity to marry her long-time partner, Lavnadim Orlodhari, on October 11th, 0097.
A little over a week later, her twins were born, on October 19th, 0097. Zaress Baldev Orlodhari, at 12:01, and Aarmi Ingrid Orlodhari, at 12:28. Mother and children all came through healthy. Eight relocated to Magallanica for a while to care for the newborns with her husband, parents, and grandmother.
But Eight was not done with her work as regards the Earth Sphere. While caring for her new children, Eight continued to negotiate behind the scenes and arrange matters towards the creation of a new organization that would be the Alliance's future. For a time, though, she considered that her own role in it might start there; the difficulties in her personal life tempted her towards just focusing on her family.
But as of May 0098, she was continuing to feel pressure to step in personally--and would take new steps towards 'Terminal', the idea born of her various collaborators and herself.
Over the next few months, Admiral Orlodhari worked on assembling her ship's crew, organizing the other ships under her authority, and building alliances with other forces to strengthen Terminal.
Resources
Eight York was once a Federation Captain with all the rights and responsibilities that entailed, but now she is Captain of a rather different organization. She no longer has access to the Federation's intelligence or military apparatus, but she has a lot of connections in Orb and beyond, given her attempts to defend the nation and her new status working with them. In addition, she has some access to the status and wealth of the Kadun family, and as 'Dimara Kadun' is the heiress to an old aristocratic legacy, though her grandmother maintains control.
Another resource that Eight has is her powerful psychic ability; as a Cyber Newtype her mind was forced open to the impulses of others and to the world around her, and she has only /gained/ in attunement with that world since she's been living with other people in a 'normal' life. She can read people instinctively, tends to know when someone is lying, and has an acute danger sense and ability to predict people around her. However, the experiments that gave her her abilities were still being perfected, and this results in a number of physical and mental issues that she has mostly been able to compensate for with therapy and medication. She needs regular access to medication in order to keep some of these side-effects in check, so this is not entirely a benefit.
She's also generally friendly and nice and has the resources that come from having a lot of friends in a number of places. Sometimes it helps!
But more than that, she's now the leader of a colony's defense force--an Admiral. More than /that/, she's one of the heads of a secret intelligence network. Eight's resources now are fairly vast, but she has people she's accountable to, too.

Lavnadim Orlodhari | Terminal | "My husband is someone I trust more than anyone. Even when we have rocky patches, I'm so glad to have him with me."
Ruri Hoshino | Terminal (The Nadesico) | "A good friend, but I think part of being a good friend to her has to be a little guidance. She's so young for her position, and deserves a chance to be young."

Enba Rezza | Terminal | "I'm going to miss having them on the ship, but they deserve their own command."

Gidon Kall | Terminal | "I appreciate him more after how good he was about my pregnancy. He's a solid officer, too--and I think he's finally used to our military approach."
Itsuki Kazama | ??? | "She's a fine officer, and I'm sure she'll do well in her new post."
