- Summary: Eight and Anita meet to catch up with each other over some burgers and talk about developments in both their lives, the people they love, and the near future.

It's been far too long since Anita grabbed Eight for a casual chat. But, since she's heard she was hanging out Tsutsujidai, Anita's decided it's a good opportunity to visit! A quick message later, and they arrange to meet up at MacDaniels. There's just something that feels right about meeting up at a fast-food joint like this - it's an opportunity that's rarer than she'd like, so she'll relish it whenever she gets the chance.
Now, Anita takes a seat at their chosen table, sliding the tray with their order in between the two of them as she does. Anita has gone with the classic burger and fries, and she shoots Eight a grin as she works on unwrapping the former.
"You know, I'd heard this place went through some pretty crazy times, but I didn't expect to see a whole city above us. Crazy stuff." Anita comments. This being Anita, she talks about it as casually as if she were talking about the weather. "How've you been, Eight?"

Eight York of course is in Tsutsujidai to check up on the place; a lot happened here, and it's in the 3SA's best interest to have a handle on any further trouble. But she also is enjoying going about the town. She got here with Licia Chovan, but Licia has gone off on her own to explore for a bit to let her catch up with Annie instead.
And now she's here! She is appreciative that Annie went to get the food in any case. And Eight also has a burger and fries! ...a big burger. And a couple of cookies.
Eight grins back at her. "This is nice," she says. "Last place I expected to see in here, too..."
But it's like that, right?
"It's pretty weird though," Eight agrees. Then, "I've been really good! There's a lot on my mind with everything going on with the ships, and everything that's happened... but the day to day has been really nice."
"I've got a date later on. And the city's nice. ...Though I can't complain about sitting down," she admits with a laugh. "...How about you?" she asks. "I hear there's been some developments with you!"

"Right?" Anita agrees with a grin and a chuckle back at Eight. She nods. Of course she'd have a lot on her mind. As the captain, she's always going to have a lot on her plate... "Yeah, a lot's been happenin' lately... Good to know it ain't all bad, at least."
Her expression brightens, though, as Eight lists off some of what's been going on with her, a look of good-natured mischief crossing her face.
"Oh yeah? A date, huh? Sounds like fun. Mind if I ask what you've got planned?" Anita asks, curious, and then nods. "Yeah, it's a nice little city. Probably gonna take a little more time to explore it, myself."
Eight asks how she's doing, and Anita shrugs nonchalantly.
"Can't complain. Makin' my way forward one day at the time, you know me." She's trying to play it off casually... and then, Eight points out there's been some developments and Anita laughs a bit sheepishly. "...Yeah. I'm actually super excited."
She leans back in her chair, sipping at her drink for a bit.
"Rena and I are puttin' in for one of the couples' rooms. She asked me about it the other day and I said yes." Anita says. She's grinning a little, and there's the slightest hint of a blush. "It's, uh... kind of a big move for me, since until recently I've usually just been in my own space, but... I'm looking forward to it."

"Not at all!" Eight answers pleasantly. Not all bad at all. ...That does mean part of her is just waiting for the other shoe to drop, of course. With the Sleeves on board, it's one thing--with Full Frontal around, another entirely. Still... Today is better.
That good-natured mischief gets a grin from Eight in turn, and she leans in. "Dinner!" she says. "There's this lovely restaurant at the bottom floor of this realy nice hotel--and then, of course, there's the hotel itself..." Wink.
"But that sounds nice, too! I've found I kind of prefer a lot of my dates 'in' these days. Getting around isn't too hard yet, but I'm starting to notice the weight some more..."
But one day at a time. She is trying to play it casually, but, "Ooh."
Eight sits up, sips her drink while she waits, and looks absolutely delighted. "Really?" she asks. "You're going for it!" She beams, especially at that blush. "Moving in is definitely a big deal! It's so different. ...But a nice kind of different. It gets to be 'your space and her space', and you can see her in it even when she's not with you."
"At least, that's how it is with Lavhi and me. I'm happy to hear you two are going so well."

Anita grins at Eight's pleasant answer. She's waiting for that too, of course. She doesn't expect things to continue going so smoothly. But like Eight, she can appreciate today - appreciate the time that they have before things do get hectic again. And so, she listens with interest as Eight outlines her date plans. That wink gets a chuckle out of her.
"Sounds like you've got a really good time ahead of you. I hope you two have fun." Anita says, and then nods as Eight continues. "Yeah, I get that... You don't wanna strain yourself, either."
And then Anita offers her own news, and Eight's genuine delight causes that grin to widen - and that blush to deepen.
"Yeah, we really are." Anita confirms with a nod. Eight offers her experiences and Anita nods, going over her words in her head. "Yeah... That sounds really nice, honestly. It's definitely going to take some getting used to, but... it's worth it. I want that in my life. I want her in my life."
Rena's space and her space - where her presence can be felt, even if she's not there... It's a good feeling.
There's a genuine smile, as Eight says that she's happy to hear they're going well. It means a lot, especially from her.
"Thanks. It's been great, honestly." Anita replies with a nod.

Appreciating today... It's something Eight may have learned in part from Anita in the first place. It's important, now. When Anita laughs, Eight beams back, obviously looking forward to it. "We definitely will." A beat and, "I love beds," she admits. "Big, fluffy beds with lots of pillows, and the nice rooms they come in... Ship quarters can get so cramped. It's part of why I wanted to give our crew bigger ones. ...I mean, the studies say having your own space is good for your psychologically, too."
But Eight is very happy. Seeing Anita blush like that is its own novelty and one that she's definitely likewise enjoying. "I love her," Eight agrees. "It's so lucky that we can be with her, isn't it? She's just... Such a wonderful woman." She smiles more widely. "And you get to live with her! There's really nothing like it."
But Eight is glad, still. "Good," she answers of it being great. "And if you ever want to talk more about it... Well, I'm all ears, right?" But otherwise... "I've just been trying to run around get everything ready," Eight says then. "I'm leaving Rezza in charge when I step back. You get along OK with them, I think?"

Anita grins as Eight says they'll have fun, and when she moves on to talk about beds, Anita nods in agreement.
"Oh yeah, absolutely. Nothin' in this life better than collapsing into a nice, fluffy bed in a nice." Anita agrees whole-heartedly. "I definitely appreciate it. I feel like thing's started improving for me once we moved to the new rooms, so... those studies definitely have some merit."
The conversation moves, then, to a subject that's very important to both of them.
"I love her too. We really are lucky." Anita agrees, and chuckles. "She really is wonderful... And so cute, too, especially when she gets all flustered. And then there's the way she gets when she's all determined..."
She trails off. They'll be at this forever if she continues. She nods, then.
"There really isn't." She says, and smiles, as Eight says she's all ears if she wants to talk more about it. "I'm sure there's some things I'm gonna have to ask you, so I'll keep that in mind."
Getting everything ready... Anita nods. She knows what she's referring to.
"Rezza?" Anita considers for a moment, thinking on the Commander. "Yeah, we should be alright. They kind of handle things different than you do... but, I trust them."

"Exactly," Eight answers, glad that Anita gets it--but not especially surprised that she gets it. Eight had the nice quarters on the old Ra Mari, after all...
"Oh?" Eight brightens a little more. "Then it's been worth the money! That's very important, I hear."
"And she's so easy to fluster!" Eight enthuses about Rena. "Adorable, really. And then you're right, she can go straight from adorable to so striking and extraordinary... How many girls can do both like that?"
Eight... also recognizes they could be at it forever, so she trails off eventually too. And so instead, "Happy to answer!" She is, though, getting things ready--for leave. "I have about a month," she says. "Before I think Minae will tie me down if I try to stay on active duty. ...Londo Bell regulations said about five months, but... Well, I still worry. It's hard to leave things in other peoples' hands, even when I trust them. But I have to think of my baby, too..."
It's not easy. "Rezza's got an eye for details. They're pretty much my right hand as it is, so not a lot should change... except that I think they're a little sharper than I am on the little things. But I'll still be around! I'll be on the ship and everything. I'll just be handling paperwork and logistics for a while, instead."

"Definitely." Anita agrees with Eight... and then, a grin crosses her face as Eight agrees with her on Rena.
"Right?" Anita replies with a satisfied sigh. "She's one of a kind, alright. Like you said, we're incredibly lucky to have her."
Eight explains that she has about a month of active duty left before Minae ties her down, and Anita grins.
"I figure a lot of us'd be right behind her in that." Anita comments, but nods. "...Yeah. I don't blame you for worrying, but - we've got this."
It's a big deal, Anita knows.
"So what you're saying is, I'm not gonna be able to get away with goofing off as much." Anita comments with a grin. It's a joke, of course - they both know that she's been working harder than ever lately, and that as much as she might try to minimize the tasks she has to do, she's never been one to neglect the ones she does have. She nods, though. "That's good - I'm glad you're still gonna be around. It'd be hard not seeing you at all that whole time."

Eight doesn't sigh this time, but she keeps that wide smile. "Yes," she agrees. It's... really nice. Despite the logistics. "...And it's okay," she says. "That you're the one to live with her. I don't begrudge you two that. It'd be greedy for me to want to take everything for myself..."
She nods. "And we're all on the same ship, right? So as long as you still don't mind sharing... I'm happy with that."
As for Minae and the others, "Ha. I bet you would," Eight agrees. "...But okay. I'll trust in all of you. I know that I can. That's part of why I'm staying on the ship, after all. I want to be with the people I love, the people I care about."
But what she's saying... Eight laughs musically. "Yes, that's just what I'm saying," she jokes back. "...But no, I recognize how hard you work. I think you'll do just fine with Rezza." And indeed, "I will be. And you can find me anytime, right? I'm having a baby, not going into exile."

Eight assures her that it's okay that she's the one living with Rena. She wouldn't say she was... worried about it, but Anita has to admit that it's a bit of a relief to hear that from her. Anita smiles.
"...Thanks. That means a lot to me." She replies, and then nods. "Yeah, exactly. And, Rena... she loves you too, you know? You make her happy. She's got a lot of love to share. The last thing I want is to get in the way of that, so... yeah, I still don't mind."
Eight says she'll trust in them, and Anita nods. She can't help but smile a little, at that.
"...I'm glad." She says genuinely - and then Eight laughs, and Anita laughs along with her.
"Yeah, I think we'll be alright." She agrees, and nods. "Yeah. It's just that it'd be harder if you weren't on the ship... But, everything's gonna be alright."

It's a little hard to talk about; Eight has to dance around the issue a little, unsure of exactly where Anita's comfort zone lies, because of course Eight was the one with a hundred boyfriends (and girlfriends, and themfriends) back when they were in school together, not Annie. Even so, Eight was worried about it too, and when Anita smiles, Eight lets some of that relief show on herface.
"I'm glad," she says. "I want you both to be very happy." Rena... "I appreciate that, too. I think... we can definitely love her without getting in one another's way."
"It would for me, too. I'm going to be counting on all of you when the little one's born, too. To help me. And then when I come back to Captaining... Well, it's a lot."
Then she stops to consider something. "...Lavhi and I have discussed getting married," she says, then. "It's strange, to think so many of my dreams are happening while all this is going on in the world..."
"...But I think you're right. It will be all right." She finally picks up her burger, having been snacking on the fries as they spoke. "I hope you have some fun exploration, too. Of the city, I mean!"

Anita can see the relief and she smiles, just a little. She's glad to be able to give her some relief, too, if she was worried about it.
"Thanks." She says, and then nods. "I think so, too."
It'd be hard to trust, if it were anyone else other than Eight and Rena. But because it's them, people she already has known and cared about for so long... she's certain everything will work out.
She smiles, then.
"You know I'll be right there whenever you need me. Just say the word, and I'll come running." She confirms with a nod. Eight pauses and Anita pauses too - and then, she smiles!
"Marriage, huh? I'm happy for you two! Maybe it's a little strange... but sometimes you just gotta focus on the good stuff." She says, and then grins. "Yup. I'm sure of it."
She starts to work on her fries, then, having finished her burger first. She chuckles a bit, but nods.
"Thanks. I'm sure I will."
