  • Summary: Anita comes to visit Eight in her quarters now that things are settling down. They hope for a longer calm, but have more than just hope ahead of them.

<Pose Tracker> Eight York has posed.

Eight's quarters are warm and inviting as usual; the lights are soft rather than bright, but still light enough to see without strain. There's pale colors all around on the prefabricated walls, with art and pictures on their surfaces. This contrasts the richer colors of things like the couch, the little pillows, the wooden (it's real wood!) table in the kitchenette. The doors are closed, save for the entryway, which Eight will open when Anita announces herself.

Eight herself is in a loose light coral dress, which drapes over her nicely with longer sleeves against a chill she increasingly feels and does absolutely nothing to hide how very pregnant she is.

"Hi, Annie," she says, and if she looks a little tired then perhaps that's understandable. She's happy to see her!

"Come on in!"

<Pose Tracker> Anita Rosetta has posed.

Anita has been worried about Eight, of course. Things have been... pretty exhausting! She's her Captain, but more importantly, she's one of her best friends. So, the moment they both have some free time, Anita makes her way to Eight's quarters, and announces herself with a cheery knock.

"Hey, Eight." Anita greets with a smile and a casual wave as Eight opens the door. She can tell that Eight looks tired... but, indeed, that's pretty understandable. At her invitation Anita steps through with a nod, moving to seat herself on the couch. As she does, though, she takes a moment to admire the decoration. This probably isn't the first time she's seen the inside of Eight's quarters, but it's still really impressive how nice it looks.

"How're you doing?" Anita asks, once they're both situated... and then gives her a few seconds to answer before following that up with, "...That was pretty crazy, right?"

Eight smiles back. She may be tired, but her makeup is as perfect as ever, lightly-applied shadow and soft lip, her blonde hair likewise ideally in place. She works pretty hard at her appearance--maybe especially now that she's in her third trimester, for some reason.

The decoration indeed isn't new--but there's a little more of a touch of both her and Lavhi in it these days, including some pictures of his other family, too.

"I'm good," Eight answers first, coming around to take a seat in the plush chair near the couch. Then, she laughs, though it's not really a hearty kind of laugh.

"That was... really crazy," Eight agrees. "I'm glad to be out of the medbay, at least. They tell me everything's fine, but I've at least got the report Enba wrote me about what's been going on..."

"How are you feeling?"

<Pose Tracker> Anita Rosetta has posed.

It's good to see that, those little things that show this is a place where two people live together... It makes her happy to see Lavhi's touch here, too.

"Good to hear." Anita replies with a nod, looking back down toward Eight as she takes her seat. "Yeah, I bet... I'm glad you're out, too."

Reports from Enba... Anita thinks that over.

"Well... I bet they gave everything to you straight, at least." She says, and considers her question. How's she feeling...?

"Ah... still reeling a bit, I guess." Anita admits with a chuckle. Even Anita, as chill as she tends to be, can't bounce back immediately after all that. "Real happy to be alive, though. Hoping this calm lasts a bit longer."

She shrugs.

"Worried about Banagher a bit too, but... I'm sure he'll be right up sooner or later. Not much we can do until then but keep everything in order." She says.

It requires work! But Eight likes seeing it, too.

And being out of the medical bay...

"They did," Eight says. "Not all the details--I'm not supposed to be working--but they knew I'd just be worrying about what was going on if I didn't know at least the broad strokes. So I'm caught up on what happend with Banagher, and everything like that." Pause. "...Not that I haven't been working a little anyway..."

Anita--even Anita is still reeling. Eight takes that for what it is. "I'm happy to be alive too. Not just for me, obviously."

"I'd like to think things will calm down a little, considering. But... The things that came out, the things that were said... I still cna't entirely believe it. I wish I thought the Federation would change for the better for it, too."

A nod, then. "He will," she's sure too. "We'll have to do just that. He..."

"Well, I'm glad he's still with us. I was really worried."

<Pose Tracker> Anita Rosetta has posed.

"Makes sense." Anita replies with a nod, as Eight says that it wasn't all the details. It's good that she's caught up, at least - though Anita chuckles a little when Eight points out that she's been working a little anyway. "You're sounding like Rena a bit."

She says it fondly, of course.

"Yeah." Anita agrees with a nod, as Eight says that she's happy to be alive too.

Eight'd like things to calm down a little too. As for what was said... Anita nods.

"...That was sure somethin'. I've been doing up some reading, sounds like it hit pretty much every where." Anita says... and frowns, just a little, at the mention of the Federation. "...Yeah. It'd be great if they did."

From the way she says it, she's not certain of that, either. She shakes her head.

"Either way... nothin's gonna change if we don't keep putting in the work, no matter how nice it'd be." She says. She nods, then, as Eight says she's glad he's still with them.

"Yeah, me too. I thought he was going to leave us all behind. It's... a little scary, honestly." She admits.

<Pose Tracker> Eight York has posed.

"Oh, no," Eight laughs. "How can I tease her if I'm doing the same thing?" That's the best motivation yet she's had to actually rest.

"All over," Eight imagines. "What they hoped for, back then... what they actually got. I suppose Leina's right. If we focus on our divisions, we'll inevitably just end up in more war. ...But I--Well, you know i have complicated feelings about all this... Newtype business. Considering."

It wasn't her choice, after all.

But neither of them will hold their breath about the Federation, it seems.

"True. We can't stop and wait. Hope, but act. Right?" She smiles. "And you're very good at that. It helps to know you're still out there when I'm in here."

Scary...

"It is," Eight agrees. "When I saw Rita... I was more worried. All this miraculous technology has helped us a lot, I know, but..."

"But Rena's in one of those things. I want her to live, not to just... leave us behind. And that's true of all of them. This life, it matters."

Eight laughs, and Anita laughs too. She leans back, mood improved considerably. And she listens, as Eight considers, and nods.

"...Yeah. I agree." She replies... and nods again, a bit more solemnly. "...Yeah. I get it."

It'd be more surprising if she didn't have complicated feelings. Some things... are just difficult.

But, she smiles.

"Yup, that's it exactly." She agrees, and then laughs. "You think so? Well, if you say that, then it's gotta be true. Don't worry - I'll be helpin' look out for things."

Eight agrees, though, that what happened is scary. And Anita pauses, thinking it over. It's true - Rena's machine is something similar.

"...Yeah. I agree. It's like..." Anita pauses for a moment, massaging the back of her neck. "A miracle that takes someone away from the people who care about them isn't much of a miracle, I figure. If you don't get to live together with everyone... what's the point? Some people might be able to accept that, but me..."

She trails off eventually and nods, then. This life matters...

"Yeah. It does." She agrees.

<Pose Tracker> Eight York has posed.

Eight feels good about that. "At the same time, I understand the temptation--the wish to strike back, since... Their decision all that time ago directly made things worse for us in space, really. But it's just the same thing." A shake of her head. "I appreciate... what I can have, from it. But at the same time... I wonder what it'd be like differently, sometimes. I don't usually indulge what-ifs, but..." In this case, a little.

But she beams back. "Great. I'll be counting on you!"

But Annie's thoughts on miracles get a thoughtful look in turn from Eight. "...Yes," she says. "I can't really accept it, either. Not while calling it good, anyway."

But Eight says, "...What I told him," she says, "When I was trying to get him to come back. I told him I wanted him to meet my twins," she says, and almost feels a little embarrassed for it. "...It's strange to me, how... vital that is, now. I've been thinking..."

"I'm really happy, but it's going to be really different, too."

"Well, in any case. I for one don't plan on going anywhere for a long while."

Anita thinks it over. The wish to strike back... She nods. It makes sense.

"...Yeah. All this fighting... it doesn't take much to keep it going. A few sparks here and there..." She says... and then nods. "...I get that. Me... I'm happy the way I am, too, but I kind of wonder what it'd be like in the other direction, sometimes. So, I get wondering how it'd feel to experience things differently."

But she laughs and grins when Eight says she'll be counting on her, shooting her a thumbs-up before her expression goes thoughtful as well.

Talk of miracles... Anita nods as Eight agrees with her. Not while calling it 'good'...

"...Yeah, that's the thing." Anita figures, then goes quiet, as Eight recounts what she told Banagher. How she wanted him to meet her twins...

"...It's important." Anita says. "I guess... that, if anything, is proof of what you were saying. How important this life is."

...She chuckles a bit, though.

"...Yeah, I bet it will be. Still... I'm sure you can do it. I believe in you, you know?" She says, and brightens. "Glad to hear it - me either."

<Pose Tracker> Eight York has posed.

"It really doesn't." A few sparks are more than enough. "...That's true. I'm happy, too. I just wonder a little sometimes, with how different things could have been. Not like, if I never met everyone--but if I didn't have these... abilities, still." It's not quite the same as a whole different life, after all.

She takes that thumbs-up with a cheerful look, and then... Well.

"You think so?" Eight wonders. "Well, I sure do, anyway. There's things we can only do while we're alive... They matter." She laughs along with Annie anyway. "Thanks," she says. "I... really badly, I need things to be good for them. And I'm going to do the best I can to make it turns out that way." She nods, then, as if having decided something. "I appreciate that, though. A lot. Your belief in me."

"It helps me believe, too, when I'm not as sure."

<Pose Tracker> Anita Rosetta has posed.

"...Yeah." Anita replies with a nod. It's definitely something to think about. How different would it be...? It's not something she's sure she can know, not being in her shoes... but it doesn't hurt to think about it, either.

She nods, though. There's things they can only do while they're arrive - she's sure of that, too.

"Definitely." She agrees... and then smiles. "Yeah. And, hey... the rest of us, we'll be doing the best we can for 'em, too."

She grins, then.

"That's what friends are for, right? When we aren't sure of ourselves, we've got folks that we know we can trust to help move forward." She replies.

<Pose Tracker> Eight York has posed.

It's true that thinking isn't necessarily a problem...

"Haha, that's true," Eight says of everyone else. "You will. Aunt Annie ahead of most even, I bet." She smiles. "I'm going to make Lavhi come up with the visitation schedule, for sure." It's a joke, but it's also not a joke. But still...

"That's right," Eight says. "Thanks, Annie." Then, a beat, "By the way, are you hungry? I got them to custom make these special cookies from the cafeteria, they're supposed to be unlike anything I've ever had. And I've had a lot of weird stuff. Want to try?"

<Pose Tracker> Anita Rosetta has posed.

<poem> Aunt Annie... Anita chuckles. It feels nice to hear that.

"Well, I'll do my best, but I'm sure I'm gonna have some tough competition there." She replies with a grin, and laughs a little. "...Yeah, that's probably a good idea."

She nods, then, sending Eight another thumbs-up at her thanks. ...And then, a thoughtful look crosses her faces.

Special cookies unlike anything Eight's ever had - even by her standards. ...That could mean a lot. Still...

"Eh, what's the worst that could happen?" Anita replies with a shrug and a grin. "Sure, I'm game."

It's bound to be exciting, at least, regardless of the outcome.
