NERV (Phase 2)

Led by Gendo Ikari, NERV has lost a lot of its membership following an acrimonious split with 3G, but gained massive amounts in funding from Britannia, the REA and the AEU in exchange.

NERV remain ever secretive, focused on addressing the existential of the Angels through use of the Evangelions, answering only to the enigmatic SEELE in order to fulfill the Human Instrumentality Project- something that most of NERV remain unaware of. Following the departure of 3G, NERV has become even more restrictive of its pilots and sub-organizations.

NISAR, Prometheus and STORAGE all remain subsidiaries of NERV, with their own specializations, as well as the recently formed Novumundus. NISAR continues to work to prevent the return of the Dinosaur Empire, as Director Hayato Jin decided that NERV was a more reliable partner than the OCU. Prometheus, meanwhile, seems to generally be in line with NERV’s goals.

Novomundus, on the other hand, fills the gap left by 3G’s knowledge of extrasolar technology, but with none of the budget or years of expertise that 3G had. Indeed, Novumundus have big shoes to fill - and only a few select pilots to fill it - and are often found cooperating with STORAGE to meet their lofty goals. Based in Kamogawa prefecture, Novomundus deploys its pilots in the alien Vox mobile weapons, first encountered by the Frontier Fleet on Gallia-IV against the Yaman Rebellion’s KISS and other interstellar threats.

The odd one out of the group is STORAGE, and their funding continues to comparatively suffer because of it. With only two primary mobile weapons and a more generic anti-Kaiju mandate, STORAGE only seems to be still functioning semi-independently due to the aid of the Giant of Light Ultraman Z. Supposedly, two new Mobile Weapons are in development, but rumors that NERV is considering taking full control of the group continue to spread.

As long as Angels remain a threat - and as long as Gendo Ikari remains on Emperor Charles zi Britannia’s good side - NERV will have what it needs to continue fighting… no matter how objectionable the methods may be. For NERV, the ends justify the means, no matter what.

Major Characters

Gendo Ikari - The head of NERV, Gendo Ikari leads the organization in a ruthless war against the Angels that threaten humanity, but his true goals remain hidden. Gendo Ikari will make any sacrifice or any enemy necessary to achieve his plans.

Hayato Jin - A former terrorist and former Getter Robo pilot, Hayato Jin has one goal in his mind: Extermination of the Dinosaur Empire whenever and wherever they show their faces. Hayato is a harsh man, and has no qualms with bringing pilots into NISAR against their will - after all, it worked for him. As long as the Dinosaurs are wiped out, and humanity survives, just about anything is fair game.

Shota Hebikura - The Captain of STORAGE, Shota Hebikura is at first appearances an even tempered, dutiful commander whose focus is on preventing Kaiju threats to Earth and making sure his people come back home. In reality, Hebikura is the alien Jugglus Juggler, who came to Earth looking for a weapon that would let him fight the Giants of Light on even footing. But the mask of Hebikura has become comfortable… and perhaps, fitting a little too well.

Asteria Lizamarie de Roschefall - The granddaughter of the chairman of Novomundus, Asteria Lizamarie de Roschefall seems to be the real power in the organization. Despite her young age, Asteria is an astute commander and takes a hands-on role in running the organization. With a wisdom beyond her years, Asteria leads Novumundus with an elegant hand, even if her methods are unorthodox.

Key Questions

  • When the alternative to sacrifice is annihilation, how do we choose our sacrifices?
  • Is it worth it to go for long odds on something better, or accept an outcome more painful, but more likely to succeed?
  • Can you bear the hatred of those you sacrifice?

Tension Points With Other Factions

Gaia Sabers: The Gaia Sabers maintain a friendly relationship with NERV on balance, with most of those who saw Gendo Ikari as worth backing before still seeing him as worth backing (and appreciating the reins on Hayato Jin). However, this relationship could quickly go sour if either organization began to overstep into the other's sphere of influence.

Space Assembly League: The relationship between the SAL and NERV is one of cordial indifference punctuated by occasional polite requests. They largely do not overlap in spheres terribly much other than being connected by NUNE funding.

Cathedra: Cathedra and NERV are both NUNE-friendly organizations oriented on similar problems. While they remain friendly at the moment, however, that relationship could rapidly sour if NERV accumulated more power -- especially if that power were dangerous to the pilots in the way the Evangelion units can be.

Grand Glorious Guard: While many individual members of the Grand Glorious Guard and NERV are close friends, the organizations ultimately end up in a position where they compete as much as they coexist. NERV's presence as a geographically close, high-density NUNE-allied fortress city right next to the OCU's two Tokyos doesn't help matters much.

Terminal: NERV is a little too close to being totally unchecked authoritarian emergency power for the tastes of a lot of Terminal's rank and file. Terminal, conversely, represents an annoying distraction from real problems for NERV.

Dawn of Fold: While officially, NERV and Dawn of Fold aren't overtly hostile, there's pressure to treat the human-mulching weapons Dawn of Fold uses as no different from alien invaders. Dawn of Fold also does want to bring down the superstructure that supports NERV, which doesn't help.

Satellicon: On the one hand, there's a lot of close relations between what's left of the old guard in Earth defense from aliens and dinosaurs and stuff. On the other, that kind of makes it suck more that a lot of them -- even the really ruthless ones (maybe especially those?!) have remained within/adjacent-to the NUNE apparatus instead of going for real problem solving.

BioNet: The removal of organizations like the Gutsy Global Guard and the Brave Police from NERV's remit has actually cooled down hostilities between NERV and BioNet. There's even a little shared DNA there that might have a chance to blossom now...?

Anti-Earth Cooperative Federation: While NERV doesn't really orient on the 'humanoid fighting' side of the problem, a lot of these guys are basically just dropping kaiju on Earth, and that *is* NERV's problem.

Yaman Rebellion: Time will tell, huh? Admittedly, "We're aliens with weird technology and we're tracking mud into your house" is not a great starting point.
