Front Mission

Desire spawns madness. Madness collapses into disaster. Mankind never learns.

Front Mission is one of the oldest mecha-related tactical games, and one of only a few not tied to an existing anime or manga property. The series has had five main games, numerous spinoffs and side projects, manga, and light novels. The majority cover a 35-year in-universe span (covered in its entirety in Front Mission 5), though its recent action spinoffs have flashed forward several decades.

Front Mission 3

Kazuki Takemura, a test pilot with a civilian arms contractor in the Oceania Cooperative Union, is drawn into a web of intrigue as he pursues the truth behind his father and adoptive sister's involvement with a mysterious new weapon, "MIDAS." The experience takes him through many conflicts in Asia and Oceania, where he learns the truth of his adoptive sister's origins.

Integration Notes

The following are some basic notes on what is integrated and how things have changed as a result of that integration. As there's a lot that had to bend at least a little bit to work, this section will have subheads.

Phase 2 Adjustments

  • The attempted coup in Japan occurred and was resolved swiftly and quietly during Controlled Acceleration. As media control of the Earth Sphere has increased, it has been reported as a large OCU training exercise to minimize public panic.
  • As a result, Front Mission 3 is effectively over. Resolution favors DHZ route over USN route, but we don't really need to collapse the waveform on the fates of a lot of these characters, so they can be apped or not as desired. Lukav Minaev is very dead though.
  • Most rebel groups from Front Mission 3, with the end of the Federation system, are likely to become farm territories for Dawn of Fold.

Technology

  • MIDAS uses gold and Photon Power from Mazinger Z.
  • MULS-P, as a standardization agreement, also includes Knightmare Frames from Code Geass. Characters are encouraged to slap Gloucester arms on everything. (They have such a good accuracy to weight ratio...)
  • The Numbers project (no relation to Britannia's Number citizens) results in Coordinators or Coordinator Newtypes. This was essentially already true (given existing data on the process used to create Numbers, Ivan Larzalev's sixth sense, and Lukav's extraction of data directly from Emma's brain); it's really just a terminology handshake.

Politics

  • Front Mission's USN has been replaced with Code Geass's Britannia. Surprisingly, this involved relatively little 'give,' for Front Mission 3 in particular, given how the USN just... can't stop doing bastard things all the time?
  • The Japanese Prime Minister is not secretly the head of any conspiracies. Mazinger Series's Gennosuke Yumi is a nice old man. You stop that.
  • The list of members of most supranational unions is just slightly different.
  • The People's Republic of Da Han Zhong is a Republic of East Asia member nation (and essentially the de facto -- and to some extent, de jure -- leader of that union).
  • The Philippine rebels are backed by both the REA Forces and Amalgam, but have an actual stated alliance with the Black Knights. A Pham Luis or Pierre player would be encouraged to app into the lattermost faction.

Other

  • Bal Gorbovsky is part of Amalgam, as is Masao Sasaki. (Sasaki is unaware of most other members' identities because he really doesn't have the temperament for this.) Amalgam has also played host to the Grimnir terror network from chronologically-previous Front Mission games.
  • You can app characters who survived Front Mission 1, 2, 4, or 5, but the events of those games already happened (about 10-20 years ago each); we have no specific plans for content oriented around Grimnir.
  • There are no plans to integrate Front Mission Evolved at this time, despite its orbital elevators.
  • Kirishima has been integrated with the VTX Union as another Special Section. This is mostly for fun but does give Kazuki some connections to characters from another theme.

Development Trivia

Surprisingly, Front Mission has virtually no development trivia attached to it, except:

  • Tem Ray Circuit played Front Mission 5 entirely for the sake of SRTMOO and did not have a very good time.
