An S-Type Device is an early form of man-machine interface first seen around 0074, building on concepts used in the B-Type Device.

An S-Type Device allows the user to receive sensor data and machine status readouts in an intuitive, comprehensible form directly in the brain. While the civilian form of the technology is safe, the military form of the technology comes with risks of memory degradation and cognitive decline.

S-Type Devices were later found to be part of a conspiracy by science criminal and super-terrorist Morgan Bernard, created in hopes of offering him a form of immortality through the spread of his consciousness as memory data on the same protocol.

While Morgan Bernard is well and truly dead, most military-grade S-Type Device users have nevertheless had their devices removed due to health concerns.
