Huffman Island
Huffman Island, located in the Pacific Ocean to the west of South Britannia, was formed in 0046 after the meteor impact at South Ataria Island set off a chain of unusual volcanic events in the Pacific. A vaguely crescent-shaped island some 400 kilometers along its longest dimension, Huffman Island was rapidly colonized by both the Oceania Cooperative Union and Britannian Union of Solar Energy. As of 0096, Huffman is split between the two blocs, demarcated by the Mail River, with the OCU holding the western side and the Union holding the eastern.
While Huffman Island has no completely unique resources, it has many elements that make it attractive to both the OCU and the Union. The island is unusually high in rare minerals for its size; the island contains the third largest sakuradite reserve (behind Japan's and Britain's), the second largest japanium reserve (behind Japan's), and the second largest rhodium reserve (behind South Africa's), as well as economically significant deposits of iron, titanium, and cobalt. Due to the frequent turnover of territory during the Huffman Conflicts, cities in both blocs settled for the use of the Huffman Dollar (H$), as opposed to the Britannian Dollar, the Gilla, or any of the myriad OCU currencies, to provide the illusion of stability in transaction despite low confidence in the Earth Federation.
As of this writing, the Huffman Dollar is worth roughly two gilla.
Huffman Island is one of the most popular places for semi-legal mobile weapon battle arenas.
