Kirishima Heavy Industries was founded as a heavy vehicle manufacturer right around the beginning of the Universal Century, and did not enter the military field until 0046. While early Kirishima machines were used by the OCU, they did not achieve global military acclaim until the One Year War, when they focused heavily on producing engines and power systems for wanzers and mobile suits.

Nowadays, Kirishima splits its attention between military and non-military vehicles. In addition to wanzers and engines, they also a significant producer of high-speed cargo ships and transport planes as well as combat helicopters. In a post-Devil Gundam world, they have been experimenting with industrial robots capable of manufacturing at a nanoscale without actually using automated nanomachines, and have recently achieved some success in nanofabrication.

To expand their reach into military equipment beyond engines, they have recently formed a business merger with the VTX Union, and their test pilots work alongside the Special Sections.
