Nergal Heavy Industries is a multinational corporation based in the Orb Union, with several offices elsewhere in the world as well, including one in Side 1 and one in the PLANTs. Nergal is large enough to very nearly be an economy unto itself, and unlike other similarly large companies like Anaheim Electronics, pursues its own semi-military ends, to a point.

In 0095, Nergal Heavy Industries deployed its flagship, the Nadesico, to break through the Earth's defensive line and head to Mars, in direct defiance of a no-fly order from the Federation for non-Federation vessels. The Nadesico returned some months later; the Federation would still very much like to have the vessel under its thumb.

Nergal does its best to be utterly unaccountable to anyone, but as its concerns shift and the realities of the modern era of warfare become unavoidable, it has already begun flirting with helping the Federation more directly. It certainly helps the Federation more than it does ZAFT…

Nergal is a place for weirdos. Nergal hires the best of the best regardless of their fondness for the chain of command or their clashing personalities. Structure is fairly loose, and employees (and adjuncts, and sponsored projects... Nergal has its fingers in a lot of pies) have great freedom to pursue their own justice.

Nergal also theoretically serves as the largest armed wing of the Orb Union, as Orb itself only maintains a modest self defense force. The tension between Nergal (which defends Orb) and Nergal (which is helping the Federation) is a major issue of note, and only gets more major and more of note as the line between Federation special project, Orb Union special project, and Nergal special project gets thinner and thinner.

Major Characters

The Five Families of the Orb Union - The relationship between Nergal -- a multinational corporation that wields power -- and the Orb Union -- its primary host -- is a complicated one. It's fair to say that Nergal acts on Orb's behalf militarily, since it maintains an amount of mobile weapon power that the Orb Self-Defense Force does not; the question of who really holds the strings when there's a problem, though, is much at issue.

Nagare Akatsuki - As far as anyone knows, Nagare Akatsuki is simply one of the many near-ace pilots assigned to the Nadesico. There's something about his bearing that suggests a secret, though...

Yurika Misumaru - The captain of the Nadesico. Yurika Misumaru could have made an enormous splash in the Federation with her performance as a captain, but has found her way to Nergal instead.
