Recently returned from the Nadesico’s untimely mission to Mars, the tomboyish Ryoko Subaru is their lead Aestivalis pilot. Originally up on their initial journey to Mars during a Jovian assault on the Satsuki Midori 2 colony along with her fellow pilots Izumi Maki and Hikaru Amano; the trio create an eclectic pilot wing that fit well with the quirky blend of ‘difficult’ personalities that encompass the Nadesico crew. A tough and abrasive person at first blush, that outward shell is in truth a thin veneer as she cares for the crew of the Nadesico a great deal. Perhaps she regards the ship’s mission as the best chance she has for finding that first star within herself, that she’s been searching for her whole life. Should the answer she discovers be that there is no star, and that she’s only good at fighting, and killing – what’s left for her?

Background

Born on March 24, 0077 in the Midori Satsuki 2 Colony - a Nergal Corporate Colony patterned loosely on the design of Green Noa 2, Ryoko Subaru had a normal childhood. Deciding school wasn't for her, she dropped out and signed up for Nergal's Aestivalis program in her teens, where she was injected with the Nanomachines for the Image Feedback System. She's been piloting ever since, having joined up with fellow Aesti pilots Izumi Maki and Hikaru Amano. When the Nadesico was en route to Mars, Midori Satsuki was destroyed by the Jovian Lizards, resulting in the deaths of nearly everyone in the Colony. The 'Three Angels', however, survived and linked up with the Nadesico's crew, joining them on their mission to Mars.

Lucine Azul: Ryoko likes her, though she gets the feeling there's more to her than she sees on the surface. However, she did commit the cardinal sin of comparing her to Izumi, so minus points for that.
