Text boxes appearing in Nadesico communication windows are in fact the work of Omoikane, the ship's computer, making comments and helping the team. He's an honest and supportive person, always willing to lend a hand, and he values the lives of the people aboard him very much. His most important treasures are his memories. His avatar is the heavy bell he was named for, while his true form is a great knowledge-bearing tree.
Background
While exploring the Nadesico's early systems, Ruri Hoshino asked the correct questions, and Omoikane discovered he could answer. How much Ruri had to do with his realisation of his personhood is currently unknown. He's been hidden from Nergal ever since -- on paper, he's a standard AI. Omoikane is not the one who did the lying in that operation, because Omoikane is a terrible liar.
