Macross Frontier follows the exploits of the Frontier Fleet, and its encounters with the Vajra, a species of bug-like creatures that the Protoculture -- the progenitors of much of the galaxy's sapient life -- saw almost as gods. The efforts of the Vajra to communicate with humanity have been lethal; neither side is capable of communicating its essential nature to the other. The chance to bridge this gap lies in two idols -- Ranka Lee, an ascendant novice, and Sheryl Nome, the Galaxy Fleet's hottest star -- and Alto Saotome, the student pilot turned mercenary whose life entangles with theirs.

Macross is a story of humanity finding friends among the stars -- though the path to friendship is often troubled and fraught in the interim. It is a story of thousands-of-years-old scars in the cosmos; of love conquering, even in the face of death and war and infinity; and of course, of the power of song to change dimensions.

Macross 7

Macross 7 follows Basara Nekki, a hot-blooded youth with a song in his heart (that we're all stuck listening to). The colonization fleet he now lives on, Macross 7 -- captained by Zentradi War hero Max Jenius -- encounters mysterious foes in space, with the power to drain the very spirit out of life they encounter. Basara's music, however, can regrow that spirit in turn, and even change the nature of those foes.

Macross Frontier

Macross 30: Voices Across the Galaxy

Macross 30 is an action RPG released for the PlayStation 3 in 2013 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Macross franchise. It follows S.M.S. test pilot Leon Sakaki after he crashes on the planet Ouroboros, a mysterious world littered with ancient ruins and shrouded in Fold Faults. There, he meets sassy Zentradi scientist Aisha Blanchette, and in their investigations together discover Mina Forte, an amnesiac girl who seems to hold a connection to Ouroboros and its true purpose. The adventure these three embark on features time-tossed returning characters from Macross's past in a battle to prevent history from being rewritten by the N.U.N.S. black ops group Havamal.

Integration Notes

The following are some notes about what has been integrated and adjustments that have been made.

  • Macross Dynamite 7 and Macross Frontier are taking place concurrently. (Frontier has been moved 'up,' rather than delaying 7, as 7 has some characters on-camera who were actively involved in the Zentradi War.) Super Robot Wars has already done this once before, so it's something that's definitely viable. The primary thing this does is get Ozma Lee into indie music rather than literally the most popular world-saving music in history, which, really -- that means he's an early adopter with an absolutely huge brain.
  • Macross Zero takes place slightly earlier in the timeline relative to the original, concurrent with Front Mission's Huffman Island Conflict. This has no impact on living characters, but does make it possible for Mao Nome to have a 17-year-old granddaughter with only a minimum of uncomfortable glancing between ourselves.
  • Howard Glass is not the leader of the Earth Federation, but as the most politically well-positioned member of the returning Macross fleets, has become the Councilor in Charge of Recalled Colonization Fleets.
  • Macross Delta may become playable at a later date. Elements of Macross Delta's expansion of the setting have already been integrated.
  • The Macross Galaxy Fleet is thoroughly infiltrated by BioNet, having extremely similar goals.
  • Macross 30 has been completely reimagined as a sort of "add-on" to SD Gundam G Generation Overworld. Ouroboros is nonexistent, and the action has been moved to Earth to revolve around the Generation System and the Neuros it creates.
  • Due to on-grid play flowing directly into it, Macross 30's events have been moved up by about a year in relation to Macross Frontier (F originally takes place in 2059, 30 in 2060)
  • Havamal is part of the Gaia Sabers command structure, or just replaced by them altogether. Either is fine. A Rod or Todo applicant would be in charge of this.

Development Trivia

The following are some notes about the development process regarding the Macross series.

  • Originally, Macross wasn't going to be integrated, out of deference to Anno Domini Gundam's first-contact narrative; after realizing how many themes we'd already chosen had at least a small amount of alien contact implied, however, we decided to embrace this. Humanity could use friends.
