A Fold fault is an area of space that is distorted on the layer in which Fold travel occurs. Attempting to Fold through a Fold fault can lead to time distortion for the participants; it is generally safer and easier to cross a fault, at the moment, using conventional drives. A given fault will usually behave in a predictable way; mapping what Fold faults do what requires significant risks on the part of the people expected to go through them.
