Naoko Suzuki is a self-proclaimed Miracle Worker, particularly gifted in the fields of mechanical engineering, programming and AI, though lacking in terms of an actual education and, frankly, common sense. Having fled what she later learned was a BioNet plot to obtain her work, she was left without a home to return to, but found a new one in the Ra Mari II, aiding the Three Ships Alliance under her commonly used alias 'Nova Stellar'. Now, while nominally attached to the Magallanica defense force, she assists Terminal as an autonomous agent, given the freedom to choose when and in which capacity to volunteer her skills, which includes piloting the unique model Arm Slave that she designed and built herself through a fusion of highly advanced technology. Though very emotionally insecure, she commonly attempts to mask this behind a confident front fueled by optimism and idealism, aided by the encouragement and advice supplied by a pair of AI companions who communicate with her on a psychic level. Leaning into her nature as a Whispered and her wish to be a hero to an ever greater degree, time will tell whether she can continue as she has been without drawing too much undesirable attention to herself.

Background

Born in Akaigawa, a sleepy village of around 1000 inhabitants in Japan's Hokkaido province. Her parents, Mao and Itachi Suzuki, a pair of mechanical engineers, were not often around, thus raising her with a focus on self-responsibility and self-sufficiency. For most of her life, Naoko had thought her parents put their career before their child, living alone in not-entirely-blissful ignorance. She managed, however, to live a relatively stable and mundane life all the same. As she rarely concerned herself with matters taking place outside her hometown and war never came to her doorstep, in her estimation she still had it fairly easy compared to most.

During her childhood, she had trouble connecting with people due to being intellectually far ahead of her peers while being emotionally and socially stunted. That all changed when two AI-entities 'awakened' within the butterfly hairclips she's worn most of her life. In truth, she had constructed them herself while in a fugue state, not remembering having done so until much later in life. The entities, who she named Uriel and Ariel, communicated with her on a psychic level, and started giving her advice on what to say and do in her daily interactions, thus helping her out of her shell. They became her most treasured friends, and Naoko is rarely apart from them.

When her parents realized the extent of her talent in their field, she was granted access to the secret hangar beneath their house, where she worked on the construction of an Arm Slave. Until one day in January of 0097, she received a frantic phone call from her mother, telling her to get the machine out of there because 'people were coming'. The next thing Naoko knew, she found herself in the cockpit of her own NS-1 Sukeban, running away from everything she'd ever known.

Not long after, a fateful encounter with the battleship Ra Mari would end up changing her life forever. Thrust into the middle of its crew's split from the Federation, Naoko decided to assist them out of gratitude for their assistance and appreciation for the care and concern shown to her, assisting the Three Ships Alliance since its inception. Though consistently referring to herself as 'just a guest' and 'just muddling through', she and the Sukeban ended up involved in many notable events to follow, touching many lives and forging connections in a way she never considered possible.

It's felt only natural to continue following and aiding those she came to feel kinship with, gravitating ever more towards being the kind of Miracle Worker that she always wanted to be. How will becoming an official member of Terminal and the newly reconstructed NS-2 Sukeban Kiseki end up impacting her life from here...?

Resources

Naoko is a Whispered, with all the advantages and disadvantages that entails. She still doesn't understand her ESP and telepathic ability very well, but is able to employ them effectively to suit her needs, mostly on an instinctive level. On the psychic level, there doesn't tend to be much that escapes her notice, whether she likes it or not.

Very much a Math And Science Brain with an analytical mind, she has an unnatural talent for (re-)constructing machines and has great improvisational skill in that regard, as well as advanced programming skills. She has a notable expertise in miniaturization, in general able to do much more with far less. All she needs is to be given access to the proper tools and the right materials, and there's no telling what she might do! In a good or bad sense.

But of course, her most notable assets would be...

Uriel and Ariel

The two entities inhabiting Naoko's butterfly hairclips, now known to be AI constructs that Naoko created herself in a Whispers-induced fugue state. Not possessing a voice box, the two can only communicate on a psychic level. Though capable of flight, they don't appear to have any other special abilities, their knowledge is quite limited and their behavior child-like, unable to evolve much due to the limited nature of their construction.

They are, however, of the utmost importance to Naoko, serving as stabilizing factors that keep her fragile psyche together. Their presence drowns out the ever-present Whispers to a degree, and can shield her mind from undesired incursions, up to a point. Being separated from even one of them for a long enough time could have detrimental effects on her mental state, almost certainly causing erratic, unstable behavior.

Moreover, their presence is required for Naoko to make full use of her Arm Slave's custom piloting interface. While all three can control the machine individually to a degree, their three minds must work in tandem and harmony to bring out its full potential.

Uriel (the black butterfly) has a boyish 'voice' and tends to be straightforward to the point of rudeness. His proposed solutions to problems tend to be simple and direct, spurring Naoko to action when she's indecisive. Ariel (the white butterfly) has a feminine 'voice' and is much more level-headed and polite by comparison, with a more cautious nature that balances out her counterpart. She tends to reel Naoko in when her actions are causing more problems than they solve. Predictably, the two end up arguing a lot, but in the end can always find common ground in their shared goal: to support Naoko and keep her safe from harm.

As they speak on a psychic level, most people can't hear them. What about your character? Though there's always exceptions, generally speaking characters with 0 or 1 Awakening won't hear a thing, while characters with 3+ Awakening will hear them clearly. Characters with 2 Awakening are free to decide!

NS-2 Sukeban Kiseki

NS-2 Sukeban Kiseki

A complete refit of Naoko's original Arm Slave, the NS-1 Sukeban, the Sukeban Kiseki only vaguely still resembles its former, bulkier self. Gone are the huge fists and the extra layer of ablative armor, as well as the detachable disks that used to be mounted on its shoulders and the heavy club on its back. In its place is a much more streamlined design, more reasonably proportioned and with more thought put into it than its previous, more slapdash incarnation. While its barely 8m-tall slender frame may look fragile, it is, somehow, more durable than before, its armor having been treated with a superconductive Japanium alloy coating of Naoko's own design, which she dubbed 'Stellar Grace'.

One might wonder, though, about the lack of visible weaponry. Even knowing about the hidden chest guns and the ability to super-heat its hands, that still only leaves it with Vulcans and a Beam Saber-equivalent. Both of which may be impressive in their respective categories, but that still doesn't make them particularly noteworthy.

Indeed, it wouldn't be anything overly special... were it not for its unique Psychoframe Crystal-based Lambda Driver, which Naoko refers to as the Nova Driver, and its AI-assisted, TAROS-adjacent cybernetic control system. Used in conjunction, the machine's true potential is unlocked, combining telekinesis with telepathy to allow movement according to the thoughts of its pilot, and pushing its performance well beyond the level of a third-generation Arm Slave. Its most powerful weaponry comes in forms manifested by the pilot's will alone, naturally showing a distinctive pattern based on Naoko's personal preferences.

Also of note is its unique type of shielding for Lambda Driver-equipped Arm Slaves. While not notably more powerful, it takes the form of an omni-directional 'bubble', capable of repelling more than direct attacks. Psychic events, too, may be kept at bay... or interacted with in other ways, according to the pilot's wishes.

Of course, by nature of its construction, such a machine does foster a strong sense of oneness with its pilot. An allure not without risk, sure to be frowned upon by some, and coveted by others...
