Admittedly, pretty far along.

"This time, I’ll definitely… make you happy."

The Evangelion metaseries began with the original Neon Genesis Evangelion in 1995. Since then, Evangelion has spawned additional, novel content in everything from side manga to video games to pachinko machines, as well as an alternate ending movie, a manga that diverges from the TV series, and a reboot film series that gets steadily more different with each film.

Rebuild of Evangelion

Shinji Ikari, son of NERV commander Gendo Ikari, is called upon to pilot the Evangelion in defense of humanity. Facing life-and-death challenges, he struggles to grow close with others, including his commander and caretaker Misato Katsuragi, his fellow pilots Asuka, Rei, and Mari, his classmates Toji and Kensuke, and -- of course -- his father.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: ANIMA

Set three years after a major continuity divergence from the original TV series, ANIMA follows the Evangelion team as it continues to defend the world. Unfortunately, its enemies go beyond just Angels; other humans have their own plans, and a mysterious foe, Armaros, looms large.

Neon Genesis Evangelion 2 -Another Cases-

A mid-2000s video game, NGE2 provides insights into the lore of Evangelion through interviews and case files, as well as showing alternative scenarios.

Integration Notes

The following are elements of the Evangelion series that had to bend, change, or be adjusted for integration on SRTMOO.

Overview

  • This is a Rebuild-centric integration with ANIMA and Another Cases elements to fill gaps. The reason that the original TV series is not listed as a source on this page is because, to the greatest extent possible, Rebuild of Evangelion 1.x and 2.x have been used to inform character backstories and theme notes.
  • We are starting, essentially, at 2.0. Shinji has been very freshly recruited to pilot an Evangelion unit but has had a couple sorties against Angels, and likewise, Asuka will be assigned to NERV's primary base in Japan the instant she is apped and probably not sooner.
  • 3.0 and 3.0+1.0 will likely be difficult to work with, but not insurmountably so. The 14-year timeskip is essentially impossible, but other elements are fine. These elements could be escalated with an enthusiastic Evangelion cast.
  • Any schism within NERV, whether prompted by its own internal problems or geopolitical issues, will likely use elements of both ANIMA's intra-NERV conflict and Rebuild's NERV/WILLE split.
  • We actually have no specific plans for Mari's affiliations besides NERV, and would be delighted to work with an applicant to come up with something.
  • SEELE intersects with the Geass Directorate in an exciting way. Players of characters who know about this will be made to know about it. (Their pivot to backing NERV, however, is very recent; characters who were merely part of the Geass Directorate at an undefined previous time will not be aware of any particular connections.)

World

  • Second Impact happens more or less as presented; we have retained the Impact Wars from the TV continuity, as they provided a convenient catch-all to describe a bunch of small to mid-size conflicts that had to happen in the early 0080s anyway, such as the plots of Front Mission 4, Universal Century Gundam's Operation Stardust, and the fall of After Colony Gundam's Sanc Kingdom.
  • The seas are not red as they are in Rebuild of Evangelion.
  • As a result of serving Tokyo-3-based NERV partners and contractors, Tokyo-3 First Municipal HS also hosts characters from NERV-centric themes that fit better in Tokyo-3 than the Brave Series's Nouvelle Tokyo.
  • Antarctica is restricted airspace. Due to damage to Earth's atmosphere, it is actually not possible to see the distortion from Second Impact from space; like many other horrible things, the Federation has covered the truth of the matter up.

Organizations

  • NERV is a top-level faction, and comprises other groups such as Getter Robo Series's NISAR and the Brave Series's Gutsy Global Guard. Most Federation anti-alien projects were combined under NERV's umbrella after the Getter Ray explosion of 0091 and the Gutsy Galaxy Guard's rebellion in 0092. The Evangelions (and Gendo's ambitions) receive much of the funding the Federation gives NERV. Due to its proximity to Nouvelle Tokyo (the largest hub of anti-alien activity within the Federation) and its Evangelion content, Tokyo-3 remains NERV's main base, even as it inherits other bases from shows like Getter Robo.
  • Tokyo-3 is slightly physically larger than in raw canon, with a modest amount of artificial island overhanging the coast in addition to the Hakone region itself. We wanted to connect Tokyo-3's aesthetic with some other themes that have a heavy "future development in Japan" lean. More information on this is in the Tokyo-3 desc.
  • The IPEA has been replaced in practice by the Earth Federation Central Council.
  • NERV enjoys an unfriendly rivalry with Kotetsushin Jeeg's Build Base, which refused to be brought under the NERV banner and recently aligned with the Black Knights.
  • Charles zi Britannia and Gendo Ikari are partially read in on each other's plans. While they still play their cards fairly close to their chests, there is a significant degree of apparent partnership between them; despite Britannia's seeming lack of commitment to international consensus, it funds NERV expansively and even funnels Honorary Britannian pilots into the NERV infrastructure.

Other

  • We have no intentions of hard-forcing the "no more than three active Evangelions in one country at one time" element or being particularly aggressive about the expense of Evangelion units, but we encourage Eva pilot PCs to treat these as part of the diegesis. We have populated NERV's mass production unit list with a particular eye toward having available alternatives for Evangelion pilots if they think that restriction is fun to play around.
  • There are a variety of deep-level theme secrets about the origin of humanoid life in the universe that combine elements of Macross Series's Protoculture history, Evangelion notes taken from Another Cases, and themes planned for Phase 2 and later.
