Angel
An Angel is a mysterious classification of lifeform commonly believed to be a subtype of kaiju. Angel appearances are sporadic and are almost singularly focused on attacking Tokyo-3; it is unclear why this is.
Angel physiology is unique in several ways: no two Angels are alike, and all possess powers that seem to defy conventional logic. All Angels, however, possess AT Fields; while these barriers vary in strength they render the Angel invulnerable to almost all known forms of damage and can only be breached by another AT Field.
The corpus of the Angel is not its true body, but rather a red, spherical organ referred to as a Core. An Angel cannot truly be killed until the Core is breached, at which point it undergoes a dramatic and violent process of discorporation known as Image Collapse; most Angel Cores are protected, sometimes in unconventional ways.
List of Known Angels
When an Angel's power manifests directly (typically in the form of its A.T. Field) its existence is immediately registered and catalogued by the NERV supercomputer known as MAGI. All Angel-type lifeforms register as "Blood Pattern Blue."
The first known Angel manifestation was the Fourth Angel, Sachiel. While this implies the existence of a First, Second and Third, their identities are unknown (publicly anyway).

- The Third Angel was secretly sealed inside NERV's Bethany Base facility, built specifically to contain and study it; as such, it was never given a designation. Its existence, escape and execution at the hands of Mari Makinami Illustrious are all heavily classified by NERV.
