The Zabi family was an influential group of spacenoids who eventually became the leaders of the Principality of Zeon, leading the nation to war during the One Year War. They served in various positions in the Principality's government and police forces before its attempted revolution against the Earth Federation.
Known members during the One Year War include:
- Degwin Sodo Zabi, the father of the family and the ruler of the Principality of Zeon from Zeon Zum Deikun's death onward. While Degwin was a canny politician and a passable war leader, his spirit is said to have broken after the death of his youngest son in combat against the Federation, and he spent the last months of the war despondent and regretful. Degwin died when his eldest living son, Gihren Zabi, fired a Colony laser at Degwin's personal vessel to prevent him from negotiating a ceasefire with the Federation's General Revil. Degwin had multiple wives and mistresses, and purposefully obscured the mothers of his children; it is generally agreed that his three youngest share a mother, but the relations between Sasro, Gihren, and the others are unclear.
- Sasro Zabi, Degwin's eldest son. Sasro died when a shaped charge was detonated under his seat during a Zabi family motorcade in 0068. While this was blamed on a rival political faction said to be closer to Deikun than the Zabis, historians are split on the truth of the matter. The explosive used in Sasro's death was so specifically targeted that even his brother Dozle, sitting in the opposite passenger's seat, not only survived but spent less than a week in the hospital; the dominant theory of his death suggests a struggle within the Zabi faction.
- Gihren Zabi, Degwin's second son. Gihren Zabi oversaw the war effort as a whole, and used the remainder of his time to maintain morale on the home front through fiery speeches. Gihren's charisma and ruthlessness allowed Zeon to stand against the Federation despite its tiny size; his lust for power and desire for the death of as many Earthnoids as possible was, however, his undoing. Gihren is known to have died at A Baoa Qu, though accounts of his death vary.
- Dozle Zabi, Degwin's third son. A behemoth of a man noted for his unusual gentleness among his siblings as well as his immense physical toughness. Despite his softness toward children and his status as a family man, Dozle proved brutally effective in his role as Space Force commander, turning fleet inspections into raids and raids into victories. Dozle died at the Battle of Solomon during a live fire test of the Big Zam, a Zeonic mobile armor.
- Kycilia Zabi, Degwin's only daughter. Kycilia oversaw Zeon's special forces, creating numerous units like the Chimera Corps and Midnight Fenrir that operated at her personal command, independent of Zeon's Earth and Space Forces. Historians generally agree that she planned to execute a coup after the war, not trusting Degwin and Gihren as leaders, or at the very least that she intended to establish herself as the true power within Zeon. Kycilia Zabi died attempting to leave A Baoa Qu during the final battle when the bridge of her ship was destroyed by infantry rocket fire.
- Garma Zabi, Degwin's youngest son. Garma Zabi led the Federation's ground forces until his death. Beautiful, talented, and with an intense need for validation from his elder siblings, Garma is usually remembered for a tactical blunder in which bad intelligence about the location of the White Base led to his demise. He had considerable success against the Federation's best, however, and history buffs love to argue about whether the war was winnable if Garma had had better scout forces under his personal command. His memorial speech is regarded as the best instance of political theater in the Universal Century.
Known later members include:
- Glemy Toto, Gihren's son. Glemy Toto claimed descent from Gihren, despite never being acknowledged by the man during his lifetime; medical records retrieved after his death have confirmed the match, however. Glemy's mother -- if indeed he had one; a common theory is that he was created by one of Zeon's Newtype labs using donor material from Gihren and an unknown Newtype woman -- remains unknown. Glemy attempted a coup in 0088, using the first Neo Zeon's Newtype labs and Zeon Remnant allies to build a fighting force, but was killed by Anti Earth-Union Group forces.
- Mineva Lao Zabi, Dozle's daughter. Mineva has been a political football almost since her birth, and is currently the political figurehead of the Sleeves. She generally eschews this role, and has no ideological commitment to the Sleeves.
