"Change, Getter 1! Switch On!"
The Getter Robo franchise started in the 1970s, and is the first mecha series to depict smaller machines combining into a single combat robot. SRTMOO's Getter integration focuses primarily on Shin Getter Robo vs. Neo Getter Robo, a second attempt at adapting the characters and general scenario of sequel series Getter Robo Go, but with a very different central plot.
Getter Robo Devolution: The Last Three Minutes of the Universe
Dr. Saotome gathers Ryoma Nagare, Hayato Jin, and Musashi Tomoe to pilot the mysterious "Getter Robo." However, the true form of the universe is not what it seems.
Shin Getter Robo vs. Neo Getter Robo
It has been five years since Musashi Tomoe gave his life defending Earth from the Dinosaur Empire; the Getter Team of old has broken up, and Getter research is banned. Hayato Jin now heads up NISAR, a self-defense organization run by the Japanese government. Hayato puts together a new team, using a Getter Robo that does not use the Getter Rays -- but will this be enough to face a resurgent Dinosaur Empire?
Integration Notes
The following are elements of the Getter Robo series that had to change or be adjusted to work on SRTMOO.
Phase 2 Notes
- One ward of Nouvelle Tokyo, catastrophically damaged by the worldwide Amalgam attack that led to the destruction of the Shuffle Alliance, has effectively been overwritten with another version of itself from one of Dr. Saotome's many simulated realities during summer 0098.
- Yes, this means there is a second instance of several Getter Robo characters and a new Getter Robo.
- A Fragment of Emperor was used to allow Dr. Hell to access Infinity and begin Goragon; this allowed Dr. Saotome to "jump-start" his simulation project.
- The nature of Getter Will is somewhat different from canon, though it is broadly similar.
Phase 1 Notes
- NISAR is part of the NERV Federation anti-alien apparatus. Being brought into a somewhat sketchy broader apparatus plays to Hayato's strengths.
- We welcome Hayato or Ryoma players to get back into the robot. Driving robots is cool and good.
- Getter Robo has fought threats besides the Dinosaur Empire; during the 0080s, it fought alongside the Federation, including the Titans, against Dr. Hell and other threats, and sided with the Anti Earth-Union Group during the Gryps Conflict.
- Texas Mack originates from the Federation-controlled Texas Colony of Universal Century Gundam, rather than Britannian Texas. (During the One Year War, Texas Colony was evacuated for strategic reasons.)
Getter Robo Series Jargon
Development Trivia
The following is some development trivia regarding the Getter Robo series and its integration on SRTMOO.
- We wanted to nail down the Getter timeline in a big way; there's a lot of cases in limited-multitheme games in general where a show with a lot of AUs is just kind of tossed to the four winds and told to go nuts. Creating clear hooks is the way to go!
- Super Robot Wars T informed the integration despite using a different Getter; as part of being late in Mazinger Series and Universal Century Gundam, we wanted Getter -- the third of the "big three" -- to also be fairly far along.
