Permet

Permet is a material found in deposits across the Sol system. Due to early uptake primarily in the stigmatized field of cybernetics and MMI, Permet lost out to other technologies during the 0070s. Permet-based cybernetics can cause disastrous effects on the human body in the form of a "data storm," in which the nervous system processes more data than it is designed to handle. At sufficiently high temperature and pressure -- or interconnectivity with a nervous system while handling more data than that nervous system can accept -- Permet converts into Jijirium.

Permet shares information with other pieces of Permet, though the limits of this technology are at this time unknown.

Permet integration is thought to address several health issues with living in space, allowing for significant reduction in the overhead necessary for space colonization missions like those undertaken by the Macross Colonial Fleets. Due to low political will to explore the technology in extensive detail after the Vanadis Incident in 0078, however, research remains in its early stages.
