Cowboy Bebop
"You're gonna carry that weight."
Cowboy Bebop, an anime about bounty hunters in space, is a little different from most of our integrated themes, in that it has no giant robots at all! However, it appeared in 2019's Super Robot Wars T, and we got a few questions about it prior to launch; we decided it'd make a great example of Post-Hoc Integration, so we decided to take a crack at it. This serves as an example not only of how Bebop is integrated, but generally how post-hoc integration of themes is intended to work on SRTMOO. Accordingly, the format of this file will be a little different from others, diving deeper into each change.
Cowboy Bebop
Cowboy Bebop follows the story of a small group of "Cowboys," licensed bounty hunters living from job to job, on their ship, the Bebop. While many episodes are one-off bounties, many also look at the pasts of our protagonists, and the weight they carry into the present.
Integration Notes
Cowboy Bebop's core need is a certain amount of space brigandry and the ability to chase bounties. Super Robot Wars T actually did a really good job of proving that the show's core conceits work just fine alongside most of the other themes presented here. Some of the finer details of the setting don't work out as well, however.
Jupiter isn't populated by conventional Earthnoids who are part of the overall society; for this reason, characters whose backgrounds trade on the Jupiter Sphere have had those backgrounds transplanted to the Asteroid Belt, Mars, or the Earth Sphere colonies as necessary. Martian Successor Nadesico takes priority here!
Mars has been populated for more than 30 years, so characters from Cowboy Bebop (and its semi-sequel, Carole and Tuesday) work out just fine on that front, for the most part; Alba City is built on-grid. Alba City is one of the last functioning Martian settlements of note, however, again due to Martian Successor Nadesico.
The Titan War -- being a war less than 10 years ago, which had a considerable cost in human life, and which a handful of characters (including Vicious) were involved in -- has largely been rolled into the Gryps Conflict. (The fact that this is a very different type of Titan is hilarious but a happy accident.) Likewise, the Red Dragon Crime Syndicate has been rolled into the Asian Mafia from the Brave Series, and is thus a BioNet organization. (Its erstwhile rivals, the White Tiger, are an Amalgam front organization.)
