Orphaned by war, Duo's been surrounded by death his entire life. From the loss of his parents, the death of his best friend, and his adoptive family dying in the Maxwell Church Massacre, Duo's life has been nothing but loss and pain thanks to the cruelty of war. With a personal vendetta against war and the pain it causes, Duo has taken matters into his own hands as a Gundam pilot. The wisecracking, fun-loving, flirtatious jokester of Celestial Being, Duo guides the Gundam Deathscythe into battle with a killer instinct under the callsign: Shinigami. When he's not sending enemies to meet their makers, Duo's scavenging and salvaging with the Sweeper Group or getting himself (and his friends) into all kinds of trouble, and loving every minute of it.

Background

Street Rat Symphony
Duo doesn't remember his parents as he grew up an orphan on the L2 colony. Life was hard but he fell in with a street gang of orphans, together they lied, cheated, and stole to survive. When they lost their leader to death, he officially took on the name "Duo" as well as the responsibility to lead the others. These were formative years that really pushed some of Duo's most core values to the forefront as he focused heavily on loyalty between friends and even honor among thieves. He found himself with a distinct moral code that continues to shape his decision making to this day.

I Believe I Can Die
Eventually, the Maxwell Church took in the gang of orphaned children giving them shelter and food. As time passed, they were all adopted, even Duo, though his foster parents kept returning him due to Duo's troublemaking attitude. Father Maxwell adopted Duo instead. The two of them formed a bond that led to many conversations about God and Life. Duo always came down on the side of the God of Death. Through witnessing so much pain and death in his life, Duo understands the way the world works. He understands that people like Father Maxwell are out there but they are a rarity. This is where his strength and conviction to do what's right hails from.

My Name Is Duo Maxwell, You Killed My "Father", Prepare To Die
While Duo didn't witness the Maxwell Church Massacre with his own eyes, he did manage to see the aftermath. Once again, war and the world around him had taken from him everything that he cared about. As he held a dying Sister Helen in his arms and she explained to him that Father Maxwell stood by his words of peace until the very end and that she hoped God would bless Duo. When she passed, Duo realized that something had to change and something had to be done. He could not follow completely in Father Maxwell's footsteps but he could honor the man in his own way. Duo took on the surname Maxwell and sought out to help others live through and survive these horrible times.

Resources

Locations

Organizations

  • Celestial Being: While the relationship between the Colonial Gundams of Operation Meteor and Celestial Being are unclear, Duo piloting the Gundam Deathscythe is evidence enough that he works alongside Celestial Being. Independently.
  • The Sweeper Group: Duo is a part of The Sweeper Group, an organization with no allegiance that scavenges and salvages from the aftermath of battles and debris in space. The Sweeper Group doesn't engage in battle but offers Duo a direct line to parts and scraps that could be used for any number of things.

Skills

  • Basic Combat Training: Duo's an all-arounder when it comes to combat situations. He's more adept at firearms of varying types than with melee weapons but he's no slouch. He's a decent enough brawler as well but where he really shines is being a bit of a dodge monkey.
  • Stealth & Thievery: Duo's been a thief since he was a child. Everything from being a stealthy so-and-so to breaking and entering to pickpocketing is on the table when Duo's involved. He learned from the best and continues to use those skills to this day.
  • Gadgeteer: Duo's technological prowess puts him in a class of his own as he often carries a number of gadgets on him whenever he's on foot. Whether it's a personal beam-propeller glider or a special watch or something else he's been tinkering with, Duo always has a trick or treat up his sleeves.
  • Scavenger: Duo's well versed in scavenging and salvage, able to sift through wreckage and find some parts or gems that others might miss. He can pick out the diamonds in the rough, as it were. Duo also can use his scavenging skills to survive on the streets much like he did when he was a child orphan.
  • Free Running: Duo's natural speed and agility lent itself very well to his ability to traverse urban landscapes on nothing but the shoes on his feet. Foot chases are a specialty in Duo's case, whether he be the chaser or the chased.
  • Singing: Duo's got the voice of an angel. Definite lead singer of a boy band consisting of Gundam pilots. Y'know, if such a thing were to ever actually exist.
  • Computers & Communication: Duo's a computer specialist of some fascinating skill. He's been able to crack security codes, hack enemy communications, and pretty much handling such necessary computer based elements. It comes in handy more than you think.
  • Mr. Fix Your Gundam: Duo has a knack for upgrading, tweaking, and repairing Gundams. He's often in the hangar working on his own or someone else's to keep them up and running or doing some patch work with some salvaged parts and scraps.
  • Leisure Hobbies: Duo spends his downtime playing chess or basketball. And usually winning.
