Gaia Sabers
Following the dissolution of the Earth Federation, a new cross-nation Bloc Force was created by the New United Nations Earth: the Gaia Sabers.
Headed by Alteur Steinbeck, the Gaia Sabers took all of NUNE’s forces under one banner. The Britannian Union, Advanced European Union and Republic of East Asia combined all their national forces into one ‘super army’ to consolidate against the outside threats of organizations, including Celestial Being, the Oceania Cooperative Union, the Organization of African Consolidation and the Anti-Earth Cooperative Federation.
The Gaia Sabers are bolstered by former G-Hound forces and secretive organizations like the Order of the Zodiac, the Romefeller Foundation, the Innovators and LOGOS, as well as LOGOS’ puppet organizations Blue Cosmos and Phantom Pain.
In addition to the existing Earth Forces, the Gaia Sabers have a number of extra-Solar organizations working under their banner: the Gilgamesh Confederation, the alien data-beings of System Security and the zealots of The Clawed Man. While these groups do not necessarily share the goals of NUNE, they are happy to work with and under them in order to meet their own agendas, be it the crushing of the Yaman Rebellion or the acquisition of technology.
While the normal forces of the Gaia Sabers are structured like a military, the Innovators, System Security and certain elites have Autonomous Action licenses - permission from the NUNE government to act as they will in pursuit of the agenda. These licenses are restricted but powerful things, and members with them have to cross a pretty severe line to face sanctioning or punishment.
Overall, the Gaia Sabers are an authoritarian force, bent on creating order throughout the Earth Sphere. At the moment, their order in a chaotic time seems to be helping the nations in which they operate… but they are watched heavily by non-NUNE organizations, fearing a second coming of the Titans. Time will tell if their fears are founded.
Major Characters
Alteur Steinbeck - A veteran of the One Year War and Gryps Conflict turned environmentalist turned G-Hound office, Alteur Steinbeck now leads the Gaia Sabers in their efforts to exert order on the Earth Sphere. Steinbuck is a man with a singular grip on the pulse of the Earth Sphere and irons in many fires.
Schneizel el Britannia - Prime Minister of Britannia, Schneizel el Britannia is a pragmatic and ruthless strategist and military commander, taking a personal interest in maintaining Britannia’s interests within the Gaia Sabers. Schneizel has no desires of his own save the ambition to take the throne, something his work with the Gaia Sabers is merely a stepping stone for.
Ribbons Almark - The leader of the Innovators - and an Innovade himself - Ribbons Almark is one of the strongest powers within the Gaia Sabers, and a major architect of their rise to power. Ribbons believes himself superior to humanity, and to rule them is his right and duty. If Humanity is to become something greater, Ribbons has decided it will do so on his terms… and will brook no argument.
The Clawed Man - A wildcard from beyond the Solar System, the Clawed Man leads a group of zealots that the Gaia Sabers have presently decided are useful. The Clawed Man doesn’t have any interest in the greater goals of the Gaia Sabers, but simply in their use for his goal of a peaceful world. His strategy for doing this remains unknown, but for now, The Clawed Man and the Gaia Sabers are allies - for as long as that lasts.
Tension Points With Other Factions
Cathedra: Gaia Sabers's mode of warfare includes Mobile Dolls, psycommu, and eventually Innovade suicide bombs. Cathedra remains committed to an understanding of the world in which war is conducted by humans in which the weight of a life is a human thing to take, rather than taken by machines.
Space Assembly League: Gaia Sabers retains a lot of the more overtly anti-colonial sentiment that existed in the Federation. The Space Assembly League sees the backers of the Gaia Sabers, especially those not involved with Cathedra but possessed of significant funding, as a political obstacle, and while they'll play nice, there's absolutely clashes between specialist units that simply go fully unacknowledged.
NERV: The Gaia Sabers maintain a friendly relationship with NERV on balance, with most of those who saw Gendo Ikari as worth backing before still seeing him as worth backing (and appreciating the reins on Hayato Jin). However, this relationship could quickly go sour if either organization began to overstep into the other's sphere of influence.
Grand Glorious Guard: 3G represents an absolutely enormous amount of power, control, and response time that simply cannot be allowed to non-NUNE nations. The Gaia Sabers don't want general NUNE war with the OAC and OCU, but will absolutely obstruct, lean on technologically, and *will* shoot when they can get away with it or when operating under deniable conditions.
Terminal: While the Gaia Sabers are not aware of the full extent of Terminal's activities, the world proposed by the likes of Eight Orlodhari is ultimately too free-wheeling for the tastes of the Gaia Sabers. Humanity must be unified if it is to face the infinite universe beyond, and there is no unity in the freedom that Terminal desires.
Dawn of Fold: This one is conveniently very easy. To the Gaia Sabers, Dawn of Fold is both an easy scapegoat for the problems of the world and a clear opposing force, and to Dawn of Fold, the Gaia Sabers represent the face of NUNE oppression. There's essentially no reconciliation of these views of reality.
Satellicon: In addition to the obvious vendetta between the two organizations, the Gaia Sabers and Satellicon represent the locations where many of the other's enemies burrowed in as the world changed. Many ex-Amalgam executives who were more committed to power than to checks or balances dug into the Gaia Sabers infrastructure or the conspiracies surrounding it, and many of the Earth Sphere's brightest stars took up under the Satellicon banner after seemingly being crushed.
BioNet: In some cases, the devil you know is better than the devil you don't. While officially, the Gaia Sabers and BioNet are shoot on sight with each other, the quieter elements of both groups can occasionally reach mutual understanding.
Anti-Earth Cooperative Federation: Ultimately, the Gaia Sabers want to point the sword of Earth out toward the stars. The AECF takes a fundamentally opposed view of the role of Earth in the cosmos, and accordingly, the two cannot coexist except as enemies overt and covert.
Yaman Rebellion: The Gaia Sabers have already cut deals with many of the Yaman Rebellion's enemies. Daba Myroad and his associates were doomed in the possibility of forming a relationship with this side of NUNE basically upon arrival.
