Londo Bell was founded in the early 0090s as a check on the possibility of new aggression by Zeonic remnant forces -- a decision that paid dividends when it was able to stop the dropping of Axis by Char Aznable's Neo Zeon in 0093. Despite this, however, the task force has seen better days.
Disunity in the Federation has damaged Londo Bell significantly; it does not command the respect one might expect of its track record. Instead, Londo Bell -- while possessed of no shortage of elite pilots or units -- is something of an also-ran. Londo Bell units and pilots primarily inspect regions suspected of harboring Sleeves and other Zeonic remnants. It is, bluntly, work that is 80% politically motivated, 40% of the time more about causing a hassle for the target, and 100% boring. Actually finding Zeon remnants is the exception.
Londo Bell also serves as a dumping ground for units and pilots deemed politically problematic. If they belong to no single bloc, after all, they aren't a political problem for any bloc.
Notable Characters
Bright Noa - A hero of four wars, Bright Noa is the commander of Londo Bell. He has become a captain of both talent and wisdom, but still mourns the many losses he felt in the Axis Shock.
Murrue Ramius - A mechanic skyrocketed to the rank of Captain of the Archangel, a Federation black project ship. Her situation much resembles Bright's own at the opening of the One Year War, a fact that is not lost on either of them.
Koji Kabuto - A research scientist and former pilot of Mazinger Z. With Dr. Hell defeated, he seems content, for the moment, to advance Photon Power research as the rest of his family has.
Marion Radom - A research scientist and unit designer formerly with Anaheim Electronics. Dr. Radom has a tendency to churn out aggressively overdesigned nonsense, to the chagrin of her test pilots. Dr. Radom is responsible for most of the unique Londo Bell refits of Anaheim Electronics mass production mobile suits, including the Stark Jegan and the Jesta Cannon.
Key Questions
- Can we thread the needle between protecting the Earth Sphere and oppressing it?
- Is an autonomous corps inherently authoritarian?
