An S-Type Device is an early form of man-machine interface first seen around 0074, building on concepts used in the B-Type Device.

An S-Type Device allows the user to receive sensor data and machine status readouts in an intuitive, comprehensible form directly in the brain.

S-Type Devices were later found to be part of a conspiracy by science criminal and super-terrorist Morgan Bernard, created in hopes of offering him a form of immortality through the spread of his consciousness as memory data on the same protocol.

While Morgan Bernard is well and truly dead, most S-Type Device users have nevertheless had their devices removed. S-Type Device use has significant health risks, especially for long-term users.
