Known during her time in the AEUG as Calas Madra, Calas Zelinn is a veteran pilot and officer who fought the Titans during the 0080s and later the Federation during the 90s, as part of the Bloody Valentine war. A reckless youth who grew into a level-headed pragmatist, Calas has skills that apply to mmany situations. She retired for the second time when hostilities between ZAFT and the Federation ended. She had been XO on the Jovian-influenced ship 'Socrates', but returned to December One to have her third child. Involved in the Zodiac Alliance through her parents and now in her own right, Calas by day is a mother and an elementary school teacher. She still gives advice and tips to aspiring pilots, but she lives in peace with the husband the PLANTs arranged for her and the 'uncle' of her children. She can seem cold, but in lieu of a need for extremes in her life right now, it's mostly a quiet sadness as acclimating to peacetime has proven much more difficult the second time around.
Background
Calas was born as Calas Madra to two Coordinators whose work in Water Management saw them good lives in the new PLANT colonies, despite the general conditions there. She could not help but see the unrest in the Earth Sphere and the anti-Coordinator sentiment in the world, but grew up healthy despite it. Her parents were involved in the Zodiac Alliance as it formed, part of the effort to make things better in their home.
She was a university student when the 30 Bunch incident came to pass. Under the realization that any of their colonies could be destroyed at the whim of people like the Titans, she joined the military, becoming a part of the AEUG, where she woul stay for a few years fighting the Titans in the Gryps Conflict and Neo Zeon in that war as well.
At twenty-four she retires from battle to marry Navras Zelinn and finish university. She's pregnant with her first child within the year. She also lives with her husband's previous partner, Jovri Gand, and the three of them together raise her children. Her son Kavrun is born in 0089, and her daughter Adria in 0091. She works as an elementary school teacher whenn she graduates.
The Axis Shock does not see her return to war, but sees her active politically. What does draw her back into the lens of conflict is the Bloody Valentine incident. She joins ZAFT, at first as a flight instructor, then a pilot, then a battleship officer. Her posting becomes executive officer of the Socrates, where she watches over the young Captain and some others as one of the few people who would come to learn the truth of the Jovian involvement in the war.
However, as the war ends she becomes pregnant again some months later, and retires from the ship to go back to her life on December One. Her second son Tarol is born in April 0098, and as PLANT joins SAL and thus NUNE, Calas remains politically active. Doing the occasional favor for SAL, she primarily works as an elementary school teacher and cares for her children into 0099.
Resources
Calas's family is wealthy and has a lot of roots in the PLANTs. She has many business and political contacts as well as influence in ZAFT from her time there, and is regularly read in on current events by SAL operatives that ask minor favors of her as a citizen. Her husband is a representative of December One in PLANT's legislature. While he is a junior member, his ties to the Madra family and war hero wife see his influence larger than it otherwise would be.
While she currently lacks access to mobile weaponry, she also doesn't particularly need it in her current life.
Relationships
Name | Affiliation | Relationship | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Navras Zelinn | Space Assembly League | Husband/Wife | Calas's husband of over a decade and a legislator for December One in PLANT's government. They have a cordial relationship; their marriage was arranged for genetic compatibility. |
Jovri Gand | None | Partner | Navras's partner and then Calas's as well. His primary affections lie with Navras, but he acts as an able third parent to Calas's children and is indispensible around the house. He lives with them and takes care of the children full-time as 'Uncle Jovri'. |
Kavrun Zelinn | None | Mother/Son | Calas's oldest. Very rambunctious, but adores old-style paper books. Calas is already looking into genetic matches for him so that he can meet his future wife long before they're obligated to marry, unlike was the case for her own relationship. |
Adria Zelinn | None | Mother/Daughter | An active girl who excels in academics. She likes the beach, but prefers to stay out of the water. She's learning a lot from Jovri, and aspires to a future in politics like her father. |
Tarol Zelinn | None | Mother/Son | Calas's youngest. He is talking a little already! While he's still very young, he does like things that go fast. Still very young. |
Yuliana Kafim | Dawn of Fold | Former(?) Enemy | Calas understands better now why she's so reckless, at least. |
Leina Ashta | Cathedra | Acquaintance | An inquisitive young woman who interviewed Calas for a school project. Calas intends to stay in touch, if not immediately. |
Himeyuri Oono | Anti-Earth Cooperative Federation | Former Captain | The Captain to whom Calas was assigned on the Socrates. A sweet girl, but with hands as bloody as any of theirs. Calas hoped for better for her, but wonders if PLANT too will become a target of the Jovians one day. |
Ruri Hoshino | Terminal | Former Enemy | A young girl who is /almost/ old enough for the job she's had for years. Calas is disturbed that a girl that young knows so much about the uglier sides of war, but it can't be helped. She's glad the Nadesico wasn't destroyed, even if they were the enemy. |
