A particularly experimental example of the Clop-class, the Ra Mari has seen a great deal of damage in her service--damage that has provided the opportunity for the Federation to try out new things for its systems. By now she's so finicky that it's difficult to operate her for any but the best crew, but what she lacks in user-friendliness she makes up for in firepower. The Hyper Beam System gets more out of a mega-particle cannon than most ships can, and the crew know how to use it. But more notable is the crew's loyalty to her captain, Eight York, who has seen them through many a difficult battle by now and maintained an optimistic spirit for all of them. But she can be a divisive figure, and there are rumors that the Federation's willingness to try the bleeding edge stems from a cavalier attitude towards the Captain's life.
