One of many black-ops project funded by the mysterious Amalgam organization, Caelius was designed to be an artificial intelligence unit with the ability to sense and manipulate quantum-brainwave patterns... or in layman's terms, a thinking machine with Newtype powers. For two years, they were tinkered with, tested, and exposed to various other test subjects or scenarios to help develop empathic abilities. Eventually though, the scientists managed to duplicate the abilities of a Category F Newtype, but before the project could proceed further, the blacksite where they were being tested at was raided by the Shuffle Alliance and they were liberated along with the human test subjects kept at the site. They have since signed up with the Shuffle Alliance, hoping to pay their kindness forward to other people being exploited. Personality-wise, they are kind, understanding, and curious, though quite a bit 'shallow' when it comes to their emotions. They simply haven't had enough experience outside of a test area to develop the strong emotional depth that humans take for granted, but with time and exposure, that just might change...

Background

November 0092 - Activation: Caelius was first activated by the scientists at the blacksite, and informed of their purpose to be a Newtype Android prototype. In their blank state, they mutely accept the purpose of their creation, without any real understanding of what that might entails.
Feburary 0093 - Exposure to first Test Subjects: After 3 months of basic education to get Caelius up to speed, they are allowed to interact with Newtype test subjects for the first time, and told to attempt to make psychic contact. Initial tests do not go well, as Caelius is unable to pick up on anything meaningful through the soundproof glass. Nonetheless, these first interactions with humans other than their handlers does awaken the kernal of curiousity, and the formerly docile and obediant Android begins to test the boundries of their mind for the first time.
June 0093 - Empathy: Caelius shows an empathic reaction on an emotional (though not psychic) level for the first time, when a test subject suffered a panic attack at the end of an ineraction session and had to be subdued. Scientists take note of the distress Caelius is under as they witness the subject being tased, restrained, and drugged before being removed from the test chamber, and come to the conclusion that emotional intensity might be the key to awakening Caelius' untested Newtype potential.
September 0093 - Awakening: First successful psionic contact is achieved. Seperated from other test subjects, Caelius is placed in a test chamber and told to sense another test subject's emotional state in sealed off chamber as they are put through a variety of stimulus. When the test subject is injected with a stimulus that induces terror, Caelius reacts. At first they recoil, but as the observers watch, they soon realizing that Caelius is reaching out mentally to the distressed test subject. The test subject's terrified state begins to subside in the presence of Caelius' mind.
January 0094 - Pushing the Boundries: Caelius' psionic potential steadily increases. At first only able to sense extreme emotions such as terror or rage, Caelius soon is able to sense subtler emotions such as joy and sadness, and the range of their abilities improves. Even when not being tested, scientists note that Caelius continues to reach out to other subjects. Unbeknownst to them however, Caelius' ability have progressed beyond merely detecting emotional states, and they begin to gather information from the minds of other test subjects and learn of things that were never taught to them during the educational period of their training. From these interactions, Caelius begins to develop a patchwork know-how of the world outside of the testing facility, and develops a desire to see it for themselves.
April 0094 - Roadblock: Amalgam's development of Caelius' abilities begin to stall out as, despite Caelius' growing empathic abilities, they have yet to display signs of the Quantum Brainwave patterns that would allow them to use Psycommu weaponry. Despite this setback, the scientists move forward with the project, and Caelius begins to recieve training in mobile weapon operations and battle tactics, in the belief that exposure to new stimuli might provoke a change in their abilities.
July 0094 - First Death: Caelius experiences the death of another test subject for the first time. Thrown into a live fire situation with another subject that has been drugged into a state of berserker rage, Caelius at first tries to reason and sooth the subject in the midst of combat. When that fails, they reluctantly disable the other subject's machine. As the safeties are enabled and the test machine locks down, Caelius watches helplessly as the other subject is dragged out of their ruined AC and summarily executed by the guards, their mind having already been destroyed by the combat drugs used to induce the berserker state. Caelius is shaken, and for the first time begins to actively desire freedom from their creators, not only for themselves, but also for the other test subjects with which they have bonded to.
October 0094 - SOS: Combat training continues, and more deaths continue to occur, some accidental, others at the hands of the guards when the subject resists, and one that attempted to escape during a test only for their machine to self detonate upon leaving the testing area. During this time, Caelius attempts to reach out further and further with their empathic abilities, hoping to reach someone on the outside. Caelius manages to sense the faintest traces of another but is unable to make contact on their own. They then come up with the idea of convincing the other test subjects to assist them psionically, hoping that a chorus of voices might be heard where one is too weak cross the distance. An attempt is made, though whether the SOS was heard is unknown.
December 0094 - Liberation: The landship Freedan and supporting elements of the Shuffle Alliance raid the testing facility, having been guided there by Tiffa Adill after she sensed the shared cry of the facility's Newtypes. Acting on emergency protocols, the guards of the base fight a delaying action against the Freedan while they execute all scientists on site and destroy the data for the research. Ground forces prevent them from doing the same to the site's test subjects, and they commit suicide to prevent capture. Caelius and the other subjects are freed, and Caelius temporarily stays with the Shuffle Alliance while they decide on what to do with their life now that they are allowed to live it for the first time.

Resources

Caelius has very little in the way of resources, besides their customized Armored Core test unit, however they do have several advantages.

First being their android abilities. While not on the level of a dedicated combat unit, Caelius nonetheless sports strength enough to fell a tree in a single punch, durability to shrug off heavy impacts (though not against standard firearms), and reflexes equal to high level Coordinators.

The second being their fledgling Newtype abilities. By old Federation metrics, Caelius would fall into the Category F classification, unable to interact with systems that rely on Quantum Brainwaves, but nonetheless very sensitive to the emotional state of those around them.
