AEU Forces
(This file is not a general summary of the Advanced European Union.)
The picture of the average AEU military unit is an extremely elite fighting force equipped with bleeding-edge gear proportional to its allocation. (This is mostly because it's offloaded all but the very best gear to PMCs and Foreign Legion forces that are not legally counted as part of their operating military strength, allowing them to bypass a lot of treaties on how much force you can have kicking around without anyone saying anything about it.) Even when it's making a knock-off of someone else's current-generation unit, it wants the whole world to see that theirs is just as good at two thirds the price and will be in the hands of every AEU-affiliated PMC by the end of the year. Force and profit correlate, without being so gauche about it as the Britannians.
Despite being committed to democracy to a greater extent than some of the other blocs, the AEU still holds a fondness for the noble-soldier; its military trends highly educated and highly sophisticated.
The Advanced European Union is motivated by profit first, though. While these desires have been somewhat tempered by the exposure of its exploitation of the South African Union early in the Universal Century (and subsequent need to subordinate themselves to the more resource-rich bloc), they haven't disappeared. The AEU's forces serve this goal first and foremost.
The AEU has very little ideological motivation, and does not especially hate Coordinators. Indeed, Moralian PMCs have a fair number of Coordinators within their ranks. The AEU simply seeks survival and success in a geopolitically complex era.
Major Characters
Kati Mannequin - The AEU's liaison to the G-Hound autonomous corps. Kati is a no-nonsense commander whose career is marred by participation in one of the worst friendly fire incidents in AEU history.
Gary Biaggi - A member of the AEU Foreign Legion, well-decorated in both anti-human and anti-alien conflict. He also operates under another name: that of the ruthless mercenary Ali al-Saachez.
Key Questions
- When we share a system with someone larger and more belligerent than we are, are the benefits of mutual aid worth their costs?
- How do we live up to our obligations without being used and discarded?
