<Pose Tracker> Sheryl Nome has posed.

The skies are a brilliant blue, dotted with puffy white clouds here and there, over the campus of Mihoshi Academy. During the Deculture Festival last year, it didn't have a chance to host any events directly--the beach party took place at, well, the beach--and so there's a lot of bustling excitement at the Sheryl concert as an event explicitly to ring in the new school year.

There's gossip too, though. Sheryl Nome had enrolled into Mihoshi Academy in winter 0096 as a second-year student, specifically at the end of what would technically be her second year as part of the flight program. It would've been touch-and-go at best to knock out a three-year program in just one year even if she had put her nose to the grindstone and focused just on studying, and she hadn't actually stopped working as a star of the music world. It's not really a surprise then that she is now in her third year of what is a three-year program.

So while there's a lot of excitement about the concert, with scores of fans gathered around the stage set up on the rooftop of a wing of the school jutting out into the crowds, massive screens and speakers arcing under the arches and behind the main stage so everyone can have a great view. On top of rumors that Sheryl will be doing actual costume changes instead of holographic changes projected onto a holo-suit, there's some talk about what Sheryl's going to do to balance her work life and her school life. Does she really think she can have it all? Even for the Galactic Fairy, it's got to be a lot.

Well, for the moment, at least there's plenty of standing room and lots of spirit and energy. Sakura trees are in full bloom throughout the colony ship and of course in the campus, and many of the delicate pink and white blossoms provide a beautiful view, even as the occasional petal flutters down. There's even refreshments: lines of tables along the fences around the school selling all manner of snacks and drinks, from quick and convenient bagged sweets and chips and canned drinks, to crepe stands selling savory and sweet concoctions both. There's not a lot of sitting room--this is going to be a standing show, it seems like--but there are plenty of trash cans for people to dump their trash in, too. Those will be properly cleaned up later. Sheryl Nome isn't going to make a dump of her own school!

The chime of a school bell resounds then, remixed to be bold and musical so as to silence the crowds. Sheryl strides out onto the stage a moment later, dressed in an ensemble that has a much cuter vibe than her usual costumes. A large red ribbon flares up where it's tied atop her head, matching the smaller but puffier one tied at her throat. A gold brooch holds it at the lapel of a ruffled white blouse with puffy sleeves that button into place midway down her upper arms. Over that, a blue dress with ruffs instead of sleeves, with an effect somewhere between an apron and a dress in its own right, cinches at her waist. From there, it splits at her hips to drape over fluffy white petticoats with a visual effect like whipped cream. On the hem of her mid-thigh skirts, strawberries dance, glittering cheery red to contrast the intense violet of her iconic drop earring. Silken stockings drape up her long legs and end just over her knees, triangular clips in the shape of rolled-up crepes hooking dangling string ribbons to the sides, while high-heeled lace-up ankle boots adorn her feet.

She raises an arm to wave to the crowds, one side and then the other, the image of her reflected on the three multi-paneled screens. When she reaches her stage, she brings her iconic golden microphone to her lips: "Hiii, Mihoshi! Are you guys feeling good today? I know I'm feeling great!"

When the crowds cheer back at her, she grins. "Ooh, I love the noise I'm hearing! <3 Then let's take that energy and get right into it! Today's all about brand-new songs--and this one goes out to a special friend whose personal journey I've had the pleasure to watch over this past year! Here goes One in a Billion!"

        https://s3.zerochan.net/Sheryl.Nome.240.1631946.jpg

Wind instruments build up to a crescendo with strings and percussion, until Sheryl bursts into song, clutching her microphone with both hands as her blue eyes and her broad smile light up the crowds below. The melody is slow but strong, triumphant and dignified, and a steady rain of rainbow confetti flows down on the screens, mixing with the cherry blossoms falling in real life. Sheryl drops the title, and the music shifts into high tempo with an electric guitar:
        "In this wide world
        "I happened to meet you
"With odds at a level you could call miraculous
"A resounding fanfare is sure to begin
"So let's seize hold of our delicious lives: one in a billion!"

As the guitar riff ripples through the air, Sheryl sweeps to one side, her long legs shimmying together, then shakes her hips and twirls. One hand thrusts up into the air, a single finger extended as if to point to a special someone, or maybe just to the heavens, or maybe just to represent the number 'one.' She brings it down to tap her cheek and winks, her smile bright and excited. Swinging back and forth, she reaches out, then steps forward into her own hand as she rests it on her chest. As she sings, she bobs her hips back and forth to the beat, before turning to one side, sweeping one hand up her thigh and along her ruffled skirts.
"I might just have met someone
"Who feels like they changed my fate
"Without erasing my memories of what I dislike
"Among what I've warded off 'til now."

Taking slow steps to one side, Sheryl sweeps a hand up to brush back a thick lock of her long hair, which glides into a broad shrug and a playful tilt of her head to one side. She sweeps around to face the crowds in a long semi-circle, then bounces up, thrusting a fist in the air twice to the beat before waving her arm back and forth, then around in a swift circle to bring a V-sign to her cheek as she winks.
"What's normal to me might just be
        "An outrageous surprise to you?!
"So play around with the differences
        "Fusion! Mixture! So wonderful!"

Ankles locked together, Sheryl bounds back and forth, bringing her closer to the edge of the stage until she catches herself, spins, and hooks one heeled shoe on the edge of the roof, a single finger raised and thrust out at the crowd again. She sweeps it up under her chin, then outward to encompass the crowds across her body. Pantomiming opening a door, she brings her hand around, opening her palm partway. Bobbing it up, she clutches her hand into a fist, then raises it into the air triumphantly.
        "In every single timeline,
"Letting moments pass one by as they pile up
"Means never experiencing them again (one in a billion!)
"'Til yesterday, you were a stranger
"But now that I happened to meet you
"The door to a new world will open
"A resounding fanfare is sure to begin
"So let's seize hold of our delicious lives: one in a billion!"

The song goes on for a few more verses, and it carries the same bright, optimistic energy, with a short stretch of the dignity of the slower opening. At the end, as Sheryl sings out a repeat of the last verse, paper bombs pop out and fall from behind the screens and speakers. They pop open, and the rainbow confetti on the screens explode out into the actual crowds. It's biodegradable and easily cleaned by the adorable street roombas that keep Frontier clean, and so when the wind picks up, it sends them streaming far and wide, chips of color to brighten up an already vibrant mid-spring.

<Pose Tracker> Rikka Takarada has posed.

Rikka doesn't go to Mihoshi Academy, but GUTS allows for a good amount of travel between the various school under its umbrella. And, besides - what better way to ring in the new school year than a Sheryl concert? Especially with how difficult things have been lately for everyone.

Rikka, for her part, feels that Sheryl can do anything she sets her mind to. It'd be hard not to, after she's encouraged her to do the same.

Now, Rikka stands in the crowd. She has a crepe in one hand and a drink in the other, and watches with interest as Sheryl finally emerges onto the stage!

"Wow... that's really cute." Rikka comments, impressed. It's a different vibe, but Sheryl really makes it work... then again, at this point she's convinced she can make anything work. Her cheer joins the rest of the cheers, and then she quiets down to listen to the new song.

Rikka... thinks she likes this one. It's nice - she trends a bit moodier, usually, but she can enjoy a good, positive song. And then...! Paper bombs emerge, scattering rainbow confetti! Rikka laughs reflexively.

"...That's a good touch." She comments, impressed.

<Pose Tracker> Alouette Pommier has posed.

Despite everything, Alouette too, has made it to her third year. And although the stars never quite aligned for previous concerts, she simply insisted on going this time.

Its an outdoor concert, to ring in a new school year its not the hot and miserable type of outdoor event, though. Its sakura season, and besides that, the atmosphere feels just right. She spots a familiar face - she expected Rikka to come too, and she ultimately decides to stand next to her to watch the show, extra-sugary crepe and iced tea in hand. "Rikka! Good to see you here." She waves. "It's my first concert... so I'm really looking forward to it!" She enthuses.

She, of course, eyes Sheryls visuals when she makes her appearance, trying her best to contain her excitement but its okay to cheer. Its what shes here for.

Most of all, shes interested in Sheryls fashion. "Its a good look all and all - it doesnt so much look like an actual school uniform, but its bold and perfectly Sheryl Nome." She comments, agreeing that it's really cute. Alouette also heard whispers of live costume changes - although people express doubt here and there, she knows what Sheryls capable of even if this is her own first concert. She has faith Sheryl will pull it off swimmingly.

The song itself... it resonates with Alouette a lot. Not only is it very catchy, and Sheryl's vocals are just amazing - there's just something special and happy about it, as a reminder of the special and cherished relationships in her life. And of course, she grins at the paper bomb explosion. Something uplifting and fun... she thinks she really needed this.

<Pose Tracker> Alto Saotome has posed.

He was here doing exams only a few weeks ago.

He only graduated a few days ago.

So why does it feel weird for Alto to be here? Is the knowledge that he's no longer a student here really making that much of a difference?

Or maybe there's something else going on...

Alto is not entirely sure, which is why right now he's being both a terrible concert goer and terrible bodyguard. Standing at the far edge of the rooftop concert area, leaning against the railing, staring off towards the city stretching out below.

<Pose Tracker> Teletha Testarossa has posed.

Space was always a minutely strange sensation for a girl of the sea, her gaze occasionally glancing towards the various incongruencies of the dome above; Same repeating clouds, the fascmile of where she was. Regardless, the third year student could only beam and push the thoughts of such convincing realism aside, focusing herself back to the reason she was here in the first place.

A concert, right at a school. It's always something to indulge in when possible (or so she concluded), and being here was perfectly within Mithril Standards. One of the best places to relax, breathe in, breathe out...And enjoy the show. To ring in the new school year however possible, especially in light of recent events.

On top of the world. Was that what it felt like? She's swept up in the fervor, to move along with the crowd with such ease. It's so easy to pick out how she's doing it; The charisma, the charm, the sheer aura she had on stage. There's no reason to try overthinking in this moment, to wonder about the future...No, she was all the concertgoer one could expect in this moment.

It's a few minutes to indulge herself as the teenage girl she was, even jumping a bit at the explosion. Instincts screamed that yes, it would happen...but in the moment, did that matter? In the midst of cherry blossoms, in the thoughts of stepping into one's third year, did one have to think about it?

"Oooooooh!" A fist raised right up, half-empty drink cup in that hand. The other keeping a crepe steady, chomping on it every so often. Ah, it was rare to smile so brightly without worry.

<Pose Tracker> Sheryl Nome has posed.

At the end of her number, Sheryl waves again to the crowds and blows a few kisses. With a teasing smile, she half-turns away, then jogs down the rooftop runway back inside. It takes a couple of minutes, but she soon returns with a different look, this one distinctly Japanese. She must have a massive crew backstage for her change, as kimonos normally take quite some time to assemble and yet this only took a few scant minutes.

A red and black kimono hangs off her sleeves, folded over with black and white flowers over her chest, hooked together by a golden butterfly pin. Red flowers decorate her skirts, which end at her thighs, beneath her dramatic obi that ties ochre in a large bow at her back. Decorative golden hairpins criss-cross through her hair while a massive red flower adorns her bangs, a black choker at her neck. A long, disconnected sleeve drapes over her left arm, decorated with butterflies that match the temporary tattoo just under her shoulder, while a violet brace adorns her right. Silken stockings drape up her thighs, and she glides forward on high-heeled geta.

When she reaches the end of the stage again, she raises her microphone to her lips with another radiant smile, her lips painted delicate pink and her nails painted daring crimson. "This next song was inspired by the season. Last spring was the first year I'd seen real cherry blossoms in bloom, and I'm sure I don't need to tell you how breathtaking they are--all you need to do is look around and see for yourselves!" She spreads out her sleeved arm and slowly brings it around to indicate the cherry trees in the area. "But it's not just the spring--there's also a certain someone who's been an inspiration to me for years, too." Her smile turns bittersweet, and she rests a hand over her chest as Japanese strings begin to pluck out a classical-sounding melody. "May this Spring Dream reach you!"

On the screens, which had been broadcasting the spinning butterfly-winged heart that is Sheryl Nome's emblem, now once again reflect Sheryl in her kimono at all different angles. The breeze picks up, and delicate pink petals flow with them, as Sheryl curves one leg behind her, her toe brushing on the ground. Her choreography is reserved at first, and in exchange, the angles on the screens shift elegantly. She raises one hand to her hair, brushing it back to show off her drop earring.
"When the flowers that bloom with honor fall, you will sing
"At the limits of my sakura-pink feelings
"My breath came short and strangled."

As the tempo of the song picks up, she bobs her hips to the drumline that now joins the Eastern-style melody. As she sings through her lines, she clutches a hand at her chest; she shakes her head twice; she brings her hand up to brush away invisible tears; she stretches it out to the crowds. Then, at last, she wipes a hand up towards the sky, three fingers together and her pinky and thumb extended, before she sinks down into a crowd.
"I felt like I was drowning, I was so lonely
"I felt like my tears would spill, you were so dear to me
"I'll travel through time and take form, and then I will sink..."

Leaping up into a deft spin, Sheryl's blonde locks whirl around her as the melody thrums into a faster tempo, woodwinds joining the drums and the strings. Her long legs cross over each other as she dances over to one side of the stage, lifting up her locks with an elegant rise of her arms, then reaching out to let them join the breeze. A few quick, graceful steps take her over to the other side, where she holds out a finger and waggles it. Finally, she steps up to center stage, whirling a palm in time with her hips before she rests it on her chest anew.
"Ahh, how many thousands, ten thousands of times has your hair swayed?
"How many thousands, ten thousands of times have you refused to wait for me?
"From atop the horizon, I'll see you tomorrow
        "Yes, I promise~"

The tempo slows again, but there is more strength to the melody--perhaps from more drums, perhaps from a subtle piano playing chords for the backbone of the melody. Sheryl switches hands for her microphone, and the other one now flows through earlier choreography: she clutches at her throat, she shakes her head, she brushes away invisible tears, and then she reaches out to the crowds--though this time, it's more like she's trying to grasp something rather than trying to present something. Her grasp crumples, and once more, she sinks into a crouch.
"I felt like I'd lost you, I was so sad
"I felt like I'd reach you, we were split so far apart
"My treasures drifted to the bottom of the sea..."

A more powerful wind blows now--those paying attention might notice industrial fans installed behind the screens hanging off the edges of the roof working to make sure that perfect gale spins flower petals up around Sheryl, seeming to lift her back up to her feet. As her hair billows up over her, she reaches for the skies. The pitch of the song rises, and her voice rises to match it flawlessly.
"Ahh, you were in brilliant full bloom, and I can hear your song
"You were in brilliant full bloom, and your spring has begun
"Bye-bye, bye-bye, thank you tonight, too
        "Is this already the end?"

Gracefully, Sheryl alights back on the stage--had she been floating? With each line, she steps in a new direction, sweeping her feet and hips in round gestures as she faces a different part of the crowd: left, right, forward, until finally she turns her back on everyone as she lifts her gaze to smile bittersweetly to one side at something distant only she can see. From far above, those cherry blossom petals continue to fall, framing her as the last of the woodwinds whistle into silence.
"I felt we had such fun, I was so happy
"I felt like I could smile, I felt like I made progress, or so I realized...
"See you later, see you later
        "Still I wait for spring..."

<Pose Tracker> Rikka Takarada has posed.

Rikka had already expected to see some familiar face, but she's pleased to see Alouette specifically. She knows it's her first concert, and it seems like this one is bound to be a good one.

"Alouette! Glad you could make it." Rikka replies with a smile, taking a few steps over to make some room for her in the crowd. She'd been to her first concern on her own - but after the fact, she learned that they were really best experienced with a friend.

"Yeah, absolutely." Rikka agrees with a nod, as Alouette gives her assessment of Sheryl's outfit. "I'm kinda jealous how well she pulls off cute, too..."

Through the crowd, Rikka spots someone who seems to be on her own. She isn't... actually that familiar with all of the groups involved in the Shuffle Alliance. She can't place Tessa as a part of Mithril - when she sees her, she sees just another student. Rikka waves her over.

"Hey, do you want to join us...?" Rikka offers.

Soon, Sheryl returns - this time, wearing a beautiful kimono that steals Rikka's breath away for a moment. She's... gorgeous, she's not sure there's any other way to put it.

The next song, Spring Dream... a song meant for someone that's been an inspiration to Sheryl. It's a more classical sounding tune - but Rikka appreciates those, too. It's really a nice performance - Rikka finds herself awed throughout. It's such a good song, too... For a moment, she's forgotten her refreshments.

<Pose Tracker> Alouette Pommier has posed.

"I'm glad I could too! I didn't want to miss it for the world after I got my ticket." Alouette grins, glad she can spend her first-ever concert with a friend. "Oh, same." Alouette replies, when Rikka envies how cute Sheryl pulls off the outfit. "Although... who wouldn't be?"

And hey, she spots Tessa too! And she really seems to be having fun. "Tessa! I'm pleased to see you're having a good time too~" She exclaims, and when Rikka offers her a spot with them, Alouette also motions a wave. "There's plenty of room over here!

Like Rikka, Alouette is just.. speechless by how beautiful Sheryl looks this time. She's taken a liking to girls in kimonos, after all.

The song too, is beautiful. There's a certain melancholic, yet hopeful vibe she picks up on through Sheryl's words and the backing music, that Alouette really likes. "What a lovely song... and beautiful choreography, too," she notes, as the sakura petals mark the song's finale.

<Pose Tracker> Teletha Testarossa has posed.

She's riding the high of crowd emotions, the girl a shining smile even in the middle of a crowd. Gazing upwards at the concert stage, taking in the sights, the sounds, basking in this fleeting moment...

And quickly returning to earth as tthe wave catches her eye. Vaguely familiar: She isn't familiar with Tsutsujidai's own Alliances, but the sight of Alouette does reinforce one thing: She's among good company. "Alouette! And..." A nod and an offered smile to Rikka. "Tessa. Jindai High. If Sousuke's done anything in Tsutsujidai, please forgive him." ...She's already familiar with the run and dance of Sousuke's 'travels', as it were.

"But it's good to see some familiar faces here, I haven't been on a Macross ship before..." Shot one, been shot by one, but not on one. That being said, she returns her attention to the concert at hand. "So this is what Leina meant by her songs..." To be touched by them. To listen to them. They feel so...Personal. Someone's heart being bared in real time in front of her, the sense that these lyrics come from a genuine place of obvservation.

In full bloom, your spring has begun...Words whisper in her mind, about her life, about the current state of affairs, of gears shifting forwards to times unknown. "It's beautiful..." The words muttered out at the last stanza. Spring would come. It always would, after the dark of winter.
Ranka Lee teleports in.

<Pose Tracker> Alto Saotome has posed.

Time passes and Alto eventually decides he's just thinking too hard. He pushes himself away from the railing, turning and beginning to make his way through the crowd. He missed the initial opening of the song, lost as he was in thought, so isn't aware of its context. Still, it's a nice song. Not a particularly risque one, for better or worse. Though glancing towards the stage, Alto can't help but stare for a moment at the sight of Sheryl in that kimono.

It's during that staring that Alto overhears a nearby conversation. He speaks up a little to correct, "Technically this is not a Macross ship. It's an Island Cluster type. The Macross is the battleship that docks at its fore."

Alto recognizes Tessa and the others from GUTS stuff, not surprised to find them here. He's certainly spent a fair bit of time at their schools during the whole exchange program and globe trotting his job takes him on. He nods to them, saying, "Still, welcome to the Frontier Fleet."

<Pose Tracker> Sheryl Nome has posed.

Lowering her arms to clutch her microphone, Sheryl smiles out over the cheering crowds. Once again, she retreats inside--but before she can emerge again, thick clouds, stormy-looking even, blot out the sun overhead--begin to rumble with thunder, even, as flashes of light cross within them. The concert isn't about to get rained out, isn't it?! But... it isn't natural. The skies had been clear until a moment ago. Is this part of the act? A messaging scrolling bright across the now-dark screens indicates it is, as it reads: Even in deepest darkness, search for a miracle...

Sheryl's own voice booms from the speakers, though Sheryl herself is nowhere to be seen. "Since time immemorial, humankind has looked at things they don't understand, things that seem greater than them, and called them God. But rising up from person to divinity is easier than it would seem--and so is stepping back down. The stone that serves as a bridge between them is an Obelisk--so listen to my song!!"

Crystalline notes ring out that, rising and falling. Alouette and Rikka will both recognize this song instantly, considering all the work both of them poured into its pre-debut debut in Tsutsujidai. Sheryl's voice croons out, "Oooh yeahh..."

        https://youtu.be/A0vaRML42iQ?t=31 (Obelisk)

Lights flash again in the clouds, but now they're accompanied by stage lights and spotlights ringing around Sheryl, now at center stage. The lighting makes her blond hair look pale blue, and a striped off-the-hsoulder top is held firmly in place by a chestless red vest that buttons tight in front. A heart-shaped gold pendant hangs from her neck, and a chunky armband decorates her left bicep while warmers cover both of her wrists. A thick purple belt with a gold buckle holds red short-shorts in place, and a ribbon laces around her right thigh, matching her strappy high heels. Slowly, the stage illuminations whorl around her in opposite directions, letting her costume shine with its own fluorescence radiating from her armband, vest, belt, and shoes as she reaches up high, then whirls into a frenetic dance.
"Like a little bird discovering the light of dawn
        "I vow I'll notice
"The heart racing over a faint omen
"For the rest of the world is still sleeping on it..."

Holding her arms out and then spreading them to each side of her, Sheryl strides a few confident steps towards the edge of the stage. She whirls away at the last second, sweeping her legs around in a rapid twirl, and her hair haloes around her. The screens below shift from showing Sheryl as is to images of non-Euclidean architecture erupting from the ground, stairs upon stairs upon stairs leading everywhere and nowhere, and countless versions of Sheryl racing up them at all angles, but all with the same look of stubborn determination.
"Because I felt love, I knew despair
"I still hold power in my hands
"But even if I lose it, even if I lose it...!"

The drop beats, and the twirling illuminations flash brilliantly before changing colors from white, pink, and green to white, red, and blue. Sheryl sweeps her arms up as if to beseech her fans, clutching something from the air and clasping it to her chest. She whirls a half-circle away, then shoots a sultry look over her shoulder.
"Swear to me by your tears that a miracle will cling to you
"And you'll leap over the wreckage in a rising curve
"Seek out the pulse in my heart until I return to life
"Will you make it in time? I pray you'll make it in time!
"(The reason for your doubt) Oooh...
"(The reason for you now) Ahh... ahh~hh..."

<Pose Tracker> Rikka Takarada has posed.

"No kidding." Rikka agrees, as Alouette asks who wouldn't be envious. Some people can just do it all... But, that doesn't make her appreciate Sheryl any less.

It turns out, Alouette and Tessa know each other, by the way they both greet each other. They're both from Jindai, so that makes sense. Rikka returns the latter's smile.

"Rikka Takarada, Tsutsujidai High School. ...But, you knew that already." Rikka introduces herself, and then laughs. "He hasn't been, uh... too reckless. Don't worry."

...Of course, a part of her worries now if she's just happened to miss any of his shenanigans. Should she be concerned...? She lets that go, though, nodding as Tessa remarks that it's her first time on a Macross.

"Oh, yeah... It takes some adjusting, huh?" She replies, and listens with interest as she brings up Leina. "Oh, you know Leina, too?"

Tessa really is a friend of a friend, then. Rikka smiles.

"But, yeah... her songs are incredible, aren't they? I love the way you can really... feel what she's feeling." Rikka enthuses. Before long, someone else joins them. Rikka vaguely recognises Alto as a friend of Sheryl's, from the beach event during the Deculture Festival. ...And, he has some information.

"You're... Alto, right? Nice to see you again." She greets.

...And then, clouds begin to form. Thunder begins to roll. Rikka looks up in surprise. But, wait... this is a colony, right? They wouldn't put this show on if they expected rain... The screen seems to indicate that it's all part of the show.

Leave it to Sheryl, to be so powerful as to bend the very weather for the sake of her performance...

Sheryl speaks - and, the song that must be coming next occurs to her before the name itself is said. This is... Obelisk. Of course it's familiar to her - this was the song that featured so strongly in one of, if not the, most pivotal moment in her life.

Rikka stares, transfixed by Sheryl, her breath caught in her throat. This song is so important to her - and Sheryl's performance of it doesn't disappoint. Sheryl does it better, she thinks. The song itself hits no less hard even after all this time. ...She doesn't realise she's crying by the time it ends.

"S-sorry. Give me a second..." Rikka apologises, wiping away her tears. She's happy this song can finally see the light, though.

<Pose Tracker> Ranka Lee has posed.

As part of the Bird Human media blitz, Ranka Lee had an interview today on the Orbital Ring.

I: So tell us more about the much talked about kiss scene between Mao and Shin with your co-star, Alto Saotome.
RL: E-Eh!? Well on screen he'll be appearing as... Shin Kudo, that is Crom Thuse.
I: And yet Alto was a much lauded child actor himself before leaving the stage. And, quite a looker years later. Would you say this marks his return to Stardom?
RL: N-No I wouldn't say that. Alto... he was just trying to, help me. I don't think he's returning to acting.
I: ..Is that so? My... I didn't realize the two of you were so close.

The moment when the interviewer smelled blood in the water is palpable. Despite that interview happening on the same day, Ranka was bound and determined to make it to Sheryl's concert on time.

They even sent a car!

Which, since she'd always travelled to Sheryl's concerts on foot turned out to be a gross miscalculation when it got stuck in traffic thanks to Sheryl's popularity.

She endured this as the time ticked down, more and more until...

... the door suddenly opened, and Ranka slipped out, as the chaffeur called out, "Miss Lee!?" "Sorry! I'm not going to miss my last opportunity to hear Sheryl live for a while!"

Ranka, ran the whole rest of the way. She rounded the block that led to Mihoshi as Sheryl started One in a Billion, eyes full of wonder as she breathlessly ran through the Sakura petals. She ran up to the outside of the campus platforms as Spring Dream played...

... and she finally made a breathless at the railing as Obelisk starts to play... panting like a puppy that had run themselves out, but... happy.

"I... I didn't... didn't miss it..." Maybe she missed some of the choreography and outfits sight of Sheryl giving the spectacular performances she was known for.

But she got there in time to hear her from the beginning to the end. And that? That is precious to her. She's pretty close to Alto and the others, but for now she doesn't realize it, swept up in the song.

<Pose Tracker> Alouette Pommier has posed.

"Rikka is a good friend of mine." Alouette explains to Tessa, and to Rikka she explains, "And Tessa is one of my classmates at Jindai." Alouette already knew Tessa and Leina were friends though, considering how she set up that afternoon at the cafe for them. "He came pretty close during prom, didn't he?" Alouette jokes, about Sousuke. Apparently he made quite the 'entrance'. "I guess it still turned out to be a fine evening though."

Alouette hasn't personally met Alto yet, but she's pretty sure he made an appearance at prom.. and GUTS puts out a list of graduating students. So when he greets the group, she waves back. "Congratulations on your graduation, Saotome." She adds, politely.

There's thunder and intensely pouring rain, which disrupts the chatter. The logical part of Alouette's brain knows it's all part of the show.. but they really were some powerful effects - it felt so real! Until the screen and Sheryl's voice clarify things.

Sheryl's talk about godhood and humanity.. of course it's Obelisk. A song she worked so hard to bring to life in Tsutsujidai. She is dead silent during the entire performance, but not because it was bad at any means. She's mostly studying Sheryl's own take on it, although she can't say it's better than Rikka's, personally. "It was really nice to hear it again," Alouette comments, quietly as it reaches its conclusion -- she passively wonders what Akane would think if she was here.

Rikka is moved to tears, and Alouette can understand. "It's okay." Alouette affirms, giving her a moment to wipe them.

It's only after Obelisk reaches its conclusion that she's able to parse Ranka's appearance, coming so close to Alto and the rest of the group. "Oh -- well it's like she says in the song - don't be late~" Alouette grins.

<Pose Tracker> Teletha Testarossa has posed.

"Really, don't worry about it. I understand if he blew up a shoebox or tried pinning down the gym teacher or something." Too reckless!? "I'm just glad he's managing himself just fine."

That being said, she does offer a smile just the same. "Sousuke wouldn't blow up a prom intentionally. I did have to dissuade him from coming in on a missile or a helicopter, but it worked just the same!" A bright, bright smile! Ah, fond memories.

A nod towards Alto, his voice being placed before his actual face. The burdens of being a pilot. "Good work during the filming. I'm sure people appreciated the skills you had." Granted, she wasn't able to see much of it, but being on-set gave her some appreciation.

"Leina? Yes...I think you can blame her for why I'm standing here right now." The statement isn't hyperbole.

Whatever words she had to follow up on that died away, transfixed by the song. Thunder, lightning. Even though the rational part of her said that'd never happen...It was part of the show. It was a play between idol and concertgoer. To be swept up along the flow, to watch as the lights flash and turn on...It's an experience to buy in and to understand. It's a show, and she accepted to be swept along by the emotional wave, to subsume in the deep as she listened. "Wow..."

It takes a few seconds after the song to realize that she, too, is similarly misty in the eyes. "...Miracles, huh." The world could use more of them, as transfixed as any teenager in the crowd. The sight of a familiar greenette didn't escape notice.

<Pose Tracker> Sheryl Nome has posed.

Gradually, the instrumentals of Obelisk fade out, and crooning to the skies, Sheryl retreats backstage. The stormy-looking clouds overhead don't disperse, though, creating a gloomy atmosphere over the campus as the winds still. Several minutes pass before at long last a subtle glow lines the edges of the rooftop. Sheryl's voice peals like a silver bell from the speakers as she announces with grave calm:

"Decades ago, a small island village was caught up in the Huffman Conflict. A man from the warring modern world, and a woman from the peaceful isolated island, cross paths and unite to try to bring an end to the war before it destroys them all--and as they do, love begins to bloom. But where will that love take them?" A breath of a pause. "...That's the story of the movie Bird Human, coming to theatres on April 12th. Let this song resonate the bittersweet tale of Sara and Shin's love within you: Liebe ~ Illusory Light."

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzkS9GMT3Cs (Liebe ~ Illusory Light)
        https://static.zerochan.net/Sheryl.Nome.full.751350.jpg

A moody, somber piano melody begins to play. From the back, Sheryl emerges, a crown of cherry blossoms ringing her temples and clinging to her ankles, and a single spotlight breaks through the clouds to shine on her. The pure white light now illuminates her hair as its natural blonde--no lighting tricks this time. She's clad in an almost luminescent white dress that drapes just off her shoulders onto elbow-length sleeves, and sweeps in soft ruffles over her hips and criss-crossing just over her knees. Pearly heels mark out a path as she steps reverently forward, and little lights, like fireflies, glow in the air around her as she proceeds to the stage, chin rising as she sings:
"If I were to lose you, then the world would surely
"End up parting with, woahh, all of its light
"Even so, if playing out our roles means we must part,
        "Then I'm satisfied with this."

On the screens, images of dark seas lapping on empty white beaches shift by like the flow of sand in an hourglass. Lifting her chin, Sheryl's gaze is sweetly wretched, as if seeing a loved one so close and yet too far too touch. She holds up a hand and lets arched fingers rest upright, as if she were setting it on an invisible pane of glass, and her voice lilts up several notes.
"On that day, I was a shell, and
"You who washed ashore were the sand
"Oooh, you embraced me as if to protect me!"

Singing as if she were crying out in pain, so emotional and yet with a voice so clear, Sheryl clutches her shoulders and shakes her head. On the screens below and around her, images of the starry heavens replace the seas and sand. Faster and faster, they spin into curved strings of light that halo around. Sheryl soon reaches her hands out, first to her sides, then upwards as if she might grasp something in the air above her, rising on the tips of her toes as if that little bit might be enough.
"I will not weep, I will never weep
"Nor will I ever chase after your back
"Or ever stare at you; I feel no sorrow
"For I will not forget your scent
"Love will not weep, love will not sleep, love will not die
        "For I want to believe
"I want to live ferociously, I want to be strong
"I will lose nothing, for I will not forget..."

As she fails to grasp whatever it is she sought, Sheryl settles her heels back down on the stage, her expression distantly mournful. She hangs her head, hair streaming over her shoulders. Then, slowly, she shakes her head and lifts her chin anew, hands layered over her chest. On the screens, images of a deeply shadowed jungle pass by as rain wets the leaves and sends all manner of small animals running into the brush.
"Just by having you there, by having you with me, I was always set at ease
"Why were your heat and laughter so very kind?
"If, when life ends, a soul is freed
"From its body and journeys for eternity, then
"When love ends, the soul of love is freed
"Oooh, and shall surely journey for eternity, too..."

Sheryl reaches out a hand, but instead of trying to grasp something out of reach, she sweeps it to one side as if in refusal. She half-turns to one side, eyebrows furrowed as she sings, her expression now of willful rejection. Soon, she looks up, her gaze fierce even as her song remains melancholy.
"I will not weep, I will never weep
"Nor will I ever chase after your back
"Nor I will ever gaze at you; I feel no sorrow
"And I will not forget your scent
"Love will not weep, love will not sleep, love will not die
        "For I want to believe
"I want to live ferociously, I want to be strong
"I will lose nothing, for I will not forget
        "I won't forget..."

An instrumental of crystalline bells, piano, and guitar play, and Sheryl clasps her hands together below her chin as if in prayer, blue eyes shut. She whisper-sings a few echoed lines as the somber melody plays until at last she lowers her hands to cup something that isn't there. At least, to look at her on stage, it seems as though there's nothing there, but her images on the screens show her holding the Earth Globe. She smiles over it, then raises her voice as if in defiance:
        "I do not
        "Need any warmth anymore
"Because I can warm myself up
"I will not let myself be hurt, nor will I dream
"I will fear nothing, for I will not forget."

The planet between her hands shimmers away into feathers of light that join the cherry blossom petals to float down around her. Sheryl lets it go; after all, in her actual hands, there's already nothing there. She reaches one hand up for a last time as the spotlight over her thins more and more until it's only a thread of light. Then, slowly, gently, a petal lands on her palm, the last thing lit up, and she closes her fingers over it just as all goes dark:
"Love will not weep, love will not sleep, love will not die
        "And I will not forget."

<Pose Tracker> Ranka Lee has posed.

Now that she has time to breathe, she has time for it all to soak in. Sheryl's emotion, the meaning of the song. The feelings of the crowd permeate her in this moment.

It's the first time she's heard it, and she doesn't understand the context of how much it means to a certain pair in the crowd.

What she DOES get is that after the song finishes and she's parsing its context, her hair lifts on her right side, like a dog's ear might in hearing something, and then she turns and gives Alouette this embarrassed little pout.

It's not even clear if she understands Alouette was directing that at her, or if she just heard it and FELT it in that moment.

And then Sheryl presents the song and her hair jumps on both sides. She'd heard Sheryl offering to retool the song for the movie, but even SHE hadn't heard it yet.

Leaning over the railing as the somber piano melody plays, Ranka's breath catches as Sheryl appears, flower clown and all. In a way, maybe it's how she imagined she might have looked that day on the trek up the mountain.

Ethereal, reverent, like a priestess herself.

As she starts to sing, Ranka feels a touch weak kneed, at the interplay between the lyrics and the melody. Hearing her cry out as if in pain, she thinks of the story of the film.

It's hard to imagine the idea that Sheryl's song will be opening the film, and her own will be closing it.

Even despite herself, her eyes do tear up. From the feelings of the song, from the idea that she's finally on her way there...

...that she's just one step closer to truly collaborating with Sheryl on a stage like this one. That her song can be in the same film as Sheryl's is evidence of that...

... and yet its Sheryl's song that is moving her to tears right now. Because part of her truly doubts that she merely wrote it on her pride as a professional...

<Pose Tracker> Rikka Takarada has posed.

"Oh yeah, I guess he did..." Rikka considers, thinking back to prom. "I was, uh, a little focused on something else at the time..."

That something, of course, being Akane. She had eyes only for her that night. ...She does double-take, though, at Tessa's comment.

"M-Missiles were on the table?" Rikka asks. ...That was a joke, right...?

Alouette congratulates Alto, and Rikka nods.

"Yeah, congratulations." She replies.

Obelisk plays. It's still so important, even now.

"...Yeah." Rikka agrees with a nod. "It really was..."

She gives Alouette an appreciative nod as she assures that it's okay. She spots Ranka in the crowd as Alouette comments in her direction, and Rikka sends a smile her way.

Obelisk fades, but the storm clouds doesn't. The gloomy environment must be important to the next song, too - which is fine with her. Rikka listens as Sheryl explains. Oh, this is for that movie... She listens with interest.

A Sheryl song is always going to be good, but this one - Rikka finds herself surprisingly taken aback by it.

"...It's beautiful..." Rikka finds herself murmuring, awed, as she hang onto every lyric. It's melancholy, but... she's always been weak to the melancholy.

<Pose Tracker> Alouette Pommier has posed.

"It's best to never assume anything Sousuke plans is a joke," Alouette adds, quietly, completely unshocked by the prospect of missiles. She did witness a kidnapping and interrogation in their very own Jindai High.

Still feeling all of the emotions from Obelisk, Alouette takes a moment to breathe in and out - and then turns to face Ranka, who adorably pouts at her like a puppy dog. She smiles back - she may not be personally acquainted, but everyone here is united in being a Sheryl fan at least.

Sheryl wears such a simple - yet truly ethereal and radiant outfit for this song, and she explains that it's about the story of Sara Nome and Shin Kudo.

"It really is..." Alouette echoes Rikka's sentiment, feeling a certain pain in spite of the lyrics affirming she will not weep.

"I think I understood Shin and Sara's feelings through this song... and definitely Sheryl's, too." She remembers when Sheryl told her why she sings, and what she hopes to get across through her music. This song felt like a perfect example of that.

<Pose Tracker> Teletha Testarossa has posed.

Prom was good. She may be biased about it. There's a reason she remembers prom so fondly. "I don't blame you, ehe...We all had our own dates during it, so it's not a surprise." A breath in, a breath out. What a night.

"Sometimes!" Tessa, you do not realize that you are leaving out the transportation aspect. "You need to get someone in a hurry, a missile is one of the better ways once you clear it with airspace." SHE'S SO NORMAL ABOUT IT.

"And congratulations, Alto! I hope your future goes well." Graduation, huh...A year away!

That being said, she does try her best to calm down from these emotions from Obelisk, to ride the waves, to calm down...and to listen.

Satisfied with this? ...No. Even so, even with this much...There's more, isn't there? Every word is liistened on, watching raptly, possibly one of the more entranced people on stage. To believe. To be strong. To weather the torment inside.

...It takes a moment for her to catch her breath, to sniffl- She's crying? When did the tears flow? "Ah-" Quickly reaching for her hankerchief, to try and wipe her face off, before it turns any messier.

<Pose Tracker> Sheryl Nome has posed.

For a few heartbeats after Liebe ~ Illusory Light is finished, there is silence. Then the dark clouds above disippate, clearing out to reveal the sunny blue sky above. It's very easy to manipulate the weather when you're on a colony ship, where all the weather is fabricated, and you're considered an intragalactic treasure. (Technically Grace arranged the weather changes with those on the Frontier in charge of such things, but it was at Sheryl's direction, so still.) Sheryl is still on stage in that pure white dress, and she raises both arms to wave out at the crowds, throwing her fans several winks and a few blown kisses.

"Thank you! Thanks to every single one of you! I always have so much fun performing for you guys, and it was especially exciting to perform nothing but new songs for all of you today! Personally, I'm really looking forward to seeing how they play my song in Bird Human. I put a lot of love into it~!" She lowers her arms, still smiling, but expression now somewhat more serious. "But once Bird Human debuts next week... sorry to say, but I'm going on hiatus." She shrugs broadly and heaves a theatrical sigh. "Who knew high school would be so tough! This coming year, I really need to step up my game as a student, or I'll really embarrass myself."

She winks, her lively smile returning, and raises a finger to tap the side of her lips. "But don't you worry~! Just because I'm on hiatus doesn't mean Sheryl Nome is out of the game~! A brand-new EP with all the songs you just heard and more is going on sale in just a minute. Plus, when I come back, I'll be better than ever and ready to take out some Vajra in style! 'Til then--" She winks and blows one last kiss to her fans below. "Love you guys! <3"

With a few final waves, Sheryl heads back inside the school building. With this event being essentially a big spring break party, the speakers and screens will continue to play various Sheryl Nome songs and play back previous performances, and with the live show over, more booths are opening up selling merch, including the aforementioned new EP album titled Liebesträume. It includes all the songs Sheryl just performed and several others she's released but haven't yet appeared on an album, like Lion, Northern Cross, and Glittering Summer. There's also still lots of food and mingling to be had, too.

For those really determined to see Sheryl... Well, quite a few present are personal friends of hers. It won't be hard for them to slip inside and visit her in her dressing room if they really want. Otherwise--it's a beautiful spring day, and the cherry blossoms are in full bloom! It'd be a waste not to enjoy it!

<Pose Tracker> Rikka Takarada has posed.

"...G-get... in what- A-actually, I think I'm good..." Rikka starts, dumbfounded. Tessa is... certainly interesting, but she seems nice, at least. There's a small smile, too, as the song brings her to tears. She can sympathise, having been brought to tears herself just the song before.

"Yeah..." Rikka agrees with a nod toward Alouette.

And so, the concert comes to an end... It was a great one, and not just because of the personal significance to her. Sheryl's going on hiatus, though... Rikka can't blame her - education is important, and it's not like she won't be able to see her. And, there's an EP going on sale!

"...I'm definitely going to have to buy that." Rikka decides. She wants a copy for herself, for sure.

Sheryl departs, and the mingling begins. Rikka thinks she's a bit through with the crowd by now, so she won't stick around for long...

...Though, she may be one of the ones attempting to slip behind scenes to congratulate her on the performance.

<Pose Tracker> Ranka Lee has posed.

In the aftermath, Ranka applauds, wiping at her eyes and smiling. Before she then moves over to Alouette and...

Her hair leaps in shock on both sides at the sight of Tessa with her!

"Oh! You're with Tessa! No wonder you were looking my way!" Ranka says with a smile at Alouette, "I'm Ranka Lee, it's nice to meet you." She says with a small bow.

Before she then turns to Tessa, "Did you enjoy the concert?" Before sending a wave after Rikka, "Good luck! I'll be rooting for you!" She knows how it can be with supplies of merch at concerts.

Eventually she'll definitely make a trip to the dressing room. Even if she was late... she still got to hear her new releases...

... and that's more than enough to gush about her performance with her.

<Pose Tracker> Alouette Pommier has posed.

Prom was indeed very good, and Alouette can't argue that she wasn't quite busy during it... even if she fell asleep really early. The way the missile talk goes does get a look from Alouette, they're in public! "Missile.. you mean we'll miss Sheryl when she goes on hiatus." Nice save...?

"Ah! That's right - Tessa is a friend and classmate from Jindai. Alouette Pommier, a pleasure to meet you, Ranka." She explains and greets politely, offering a curtsy of her own.

Alouette decompresses from the rollercoaster of hype and emotions the concert brought her through. "Wow.. what an amazing concert." She's glad she could make it to one before Sheryl's hiatus began.

If Rikka slips aside to congratulate Sheryl, Alouette will gladly be an accomplice. She'd like to thank her, too... and wish her the best of luck as a friend.

<Pose Tracker> Teletha Testarossa has posed.

The blue sky above is heightened by the sensations in her heart, breathing out as she tried to collect her thoughts again. Bird Human. Next wee- Hiatus? Her? ...It did make sense, but it's still a light surprise.

"Mhm, the concert was...pretty good." A quick breath out, continuing to collect and align herself. "Miss...Missile miss, yes. I think I made my point..." Sniff. "Clear."

"I think...I'll try and get one of those EPs. On a better channel." ...She's still smart enough to not try and dive into a crowd of fanatics.

<Pose Tracker> Ranka Lee has posed.

Ranka Lee bobs her head, at Tessa. Then looks between Tessa, and Alouette, then back to Tessa.

"Was Emmy not able to make it?" She gives Tessa a curious look, "She's a huge Sheryl fan after all and..."

A pregnant pause, as she assesses Alouette again, "... I would have thought you'd want to come with your girlfriend."

<Pose Tracker> Alouette Pommier has posed.

Alouette's brow scrunches at the mention of an Emmy. Emmy... Emilia... didn't Sho mention kicking some Blue Cosmo ass for her?

"I didn't know you had a girlfriend, Tessa." Alouette replies, curiously. It seems this misunderstanding is just doomed to continue.

<Pose Tracker> Teletha Testarossa has posed.

"Emmy?" Her? Oh. OH. HER. RIGHT. HER. The realization hits her like a truck, but still! She never! They newver! OH IT'S GETTING WORSE.

"Oh! Emmy! I'm not sure where she is right now...Maybe she's around Ashford for a bit more?" SUCH AN EVASIVE ANSWER!

"...But girlfriend? No, I think that changed a bit." ...She never did say it to anyone, right? The thought of love carries her onwards, to new horizons!

"I have a boyfriend and a girlfriend now. It's complicated, I think...But Leina seems to have it under control, so I can too!"

<Pose Tracker> Alto Saotome has posed.

Alto receives a number of congratulations on graduating, to which he responds, "Thanks. It's going to be weird, focusing full time on my job for a change. Instead of switching between it and school." Though really, lately it's been more about the job than his schoolwork. It's a good thing that Alto's work counted as credit to his course, otherwise he'd definitely be stuck for another year or so.

Alto drifts away a little from the others as the concert continues. His time split between watching it, and watching everyone else. Finally though Sheryl's last song ends and she makes her announcement. Which Alto knew about. Though seeing the various responses coming from the crowd just go to show how beloved Sheryl is. He had actually been a little concerned that there might have been a riot!

With the concert over though and Sheryl heading back inside, where Alto's (unfortunate) fellow bodyguard is keeping an eye on things, Alto is free wander a bit again. During which he finally notices that Ranka is here, talking with some of the other GUTS students.

Alto wanders over to them again, giving Ranka a bit of a smirk, "Late again? I was wondering if you'd be able to make it." He had a general idea of what had kept her.

Though not that the topic of him had come up during it. That's going to be a fun discovery later.

<Pose Tracker> Ranka Lee has posed.

"Alto!" Ranka enthuses, until he teases her, and she raises a fingertip to correct the record, "For your information - I wasn't late! I heard every single song! ... I just also never learned to let someone drive me to a Sheryl concert ever again."

Ranka just straights up, scandalized as Tessa doesn't even seem to know who Emilia is.

"You went to a Sheryl concert and you don't even know where she is!?" Ranka gawks, even more scandalized. What kind of a Don Juana is this girl? Ranka knows she's beautiful but still!

"Wait... wait, you dumped her and you're already seeing two... two other people?"

Ranka of course doesn't know who Leina is, she just laughs awkwardly.

"H'okay um, so Alto and I are going to go... talk to Sheryl and I might need to text Emmy? Like she might really need someone to talk to after..."

... after...?

It spills out quickly! "... you know getting her heart broken!" She bobs her head, "See you two later! Let's go Alto!"

She quickly makes for the dressing room and notes to Sheryl and Alto, "I didn't realize Ashford and Jindai student were so... liberated!"

<Pose Tracker> Alouette Pommier has posed.

Alouette's taken for a loop as she's left dumfounded by Ranka's accusations in a way she rarely ever is. "Oh, ah... congrats on the girlfriend and boyfriend." She allows herself to say.

"Getting accused of being a heartbreaker like that, though... pretty harsh. I didn't take you for that type, you know." It's fun teasing, delivered in a dead serious tone. You never know with Alouette.

As Ranka and Alto take their leave, Alouette waves them back.. and then begins walking in the opposite direction. "Now that it's starting to clear up, I'm going to check out what's left of the merch for sale. Here's hoping we'll be seeing each other in the same third year class~"

<Pose Tracker> Alto Saotome has posed.

Alto is dragged off. He's not sure why! But he resigns himself to following none-the-less. Though when Ranka comments later about the other schools liberties, Alto replies, "Must be an Earth thing."

Yeah, because no one in the Fleets does anything similar.

+---------------------< Board 9: IC News/Rumors/Post 826 >---------------------+ | Title: SHERYL NOME ON HIATUS Poster: Sheryl Nome Date: Fri Apr 7 | +----------------------------------< SRTMOO >----------------------------------+

After yet another smashing concert on April 4 at the Macross Frontier's Mihoshi Academy, Sheryl Nome announced that once the film Bird Human premiers, for which she wrote and sang the main theme, she will be taking a hiatus from her music career to focus on her education. She indicated that she intends to both fight the Vajra, a hostile alien race that has attacked mankind many times on no provocation, and resume her music career.

Sheryl's concert included four brand-new songs that went on sale after the show on her latest EP album, called Liebesträume, meaning Dreams of Love. The tracks include Bird Human main theme, Liebe ~ Illusory Light; Obelisk; One in a Billion; and Spring Dream. Since going on sale, it has already shot to the top of music sales chart for the week. With her many fans already missing her, there's no doubt it'll continue to top the charts for the weeks and even months to come.
