Suzaku Kururugi is the son of the late Prime Minister Genbu Kururugi, and an Honorary Britannian who has risen curiously quickly through the ranks of the Britannian Union's military. To Britannian sympathizers within Area Eleven he's a symbol of hope for integration, while to most typical Elevens he's a traitorous collaborator. To the average Britannian, he's a prideless cur snapping after table scraps; useful, but not respectable. Despite those public preconceptions Suzaku is a compassionate and approachable individual who professes a desire to save others through his military service, and sees no contradictions in those ideas. During the purge of Naka he took actions that inadvertently led to his public arrest for the murder of Prince Clovis, only to be rescued enroute to his trial by Zero and the Black Knights. Anticlimactically, he surrendered to the authorities immediately, and was cleared of charges in a quieter setting than the show trial intended for him. He's since received a promotion and transfer to the Advanced Special Envoy Engineering Corps (ASEEC). His recent enrollment in Ashford Academy caused a minor uproar among the student body, and rumors swirl that his good fortune is little more than elaborate hush money.

Timeline

  • 0071: Genbu Kururugi causes a minor scandal in Japanese high society by breaking his engagement to the eldest daughter of the Sumeragi family, and announcing his engagement to Hoshiko Ogawa. The Ogawa family, though close with the circles of the Japanese upperclass, were orbital to it and did not have the background necessary for this to be considered an appropriate match.
  • July 10, 079: Suzaku is born to Hoshiko Kururugi and Genbu Kururugi.
  • 080: Hoshiko Kururugi vanishes without a trace.
  • 089: Genbu Kururugi dies under sketchy circumstances. Suzaku, Lelouch, and Nunnally flee the war in Japan on foot and are eventually separated.
  • 090 - July of 0094: Suzaku Kururugi is brought up by his surviving relatives among Kyoto House. On his 15th birthday, he enlists with Area Eleven's Britannian Union forces and becomes an Honorary Britannian. He is quietly disowned by his relatives, and his engagement with Kaguya Sumeragi is broken off.
  • 0094: Following his enlistment and corresponding Devicer testing, Suzaku is offered a transfer to NERV or Londo Bell. He declines, and becomes a foot soldier.
  • 0095: Suzaku is involved in the pursuit of insurgents in the Naka Ward of Nagoya, and ultimately fields the Z-01 Lancelot against the insurgents, largely routing their forces by himself. Circumstances surrounding the usage of a firearm that he had handled earlier in the day led to his arrest for the murder of Viceroy Clovis la Britannia. Although he is rescued by the Black Knights en route to his trial, he immediately surrenders himself to the authorities and is cleared of all charges.
    • Following this incident he is reinstated as a test pilot within ASEEC, though his involvement as the Devicer of Lancelot isn't publicly known. More publicly he is promoted and enrolled in Ashford Academy, a school for upperclass Britannians in Area Eleven, causing a minor uproar.
  • January 27th, 0096: Suzaku attends a charity event hosted by Sayla Mass as a part of the Britannian delegation, where an incident sees half (not his half) of the delegation ejected from the event.

Relationships & Impressions

Inner Circle

  • Euphemia li Britannia: "There's nobody I'd rather spend time with."
  • Lelouch: "It's good to see you again. Try to stay out of trouble-- we can't get lucky with these close calls forever."
  • Nunnally: "I'm glad you're safe."
  • Lloyd Asplund: "Thanks for looking after me."

Half-and-Half

  • Hathaway Noa: "A difficult person, but one that I like anyway. He reminds me of someone."

Acquaintances

  • Sumire Kanzaki: "We've met before; Japanese high society is a small 'neighborhood'. I suppose she probably has the same impression that everybody else from OCU Japan does."
  • Cornelia li Britannia: "I understand she pushed through my recent promotion, so I guess I must have impressed her. In terms of competence, I'd certainly choose her over Clovis every time. On a personal level, we haven't had much to do with each other."
  • Jude Espella: "A classmate of mine. I don't know much about her yet."
  • Sayla Mass: "I like what she's trying to do. I just wonder what tripped her up..."
  • Chibodee Crocket: "A good man, I think. I'll have to get back into touch with him later."
  • Nidaime: (Amused smile.)
  • Bridget we Britannia & Veronique du Britannia: (Uncomfortable silence.)
