(This file is not a general summary of the Britannian Union.)

The Britannian Union's military has a fairly typical chain of command, with one notable exception: the royal family outranks everyone else, and many leaders receive noble titles of various levels (and, conversely, nobles are more likely to rise to leadership positions). This is not an absolute, of course, and ordinary commoners can theoretically rise to great heights through service.

The Britannian Union is the most enthusiastic of any bloc about the war with ZAFT, owing mostly to a staggering amount of racism in the population. Britannians often believe Coordinators' physical superiority is unearned, or earnestly buy into Blue Cosmos rhetoric about the unnatural nature of gene modification being bad.

The Britannian Union goes to great lengths to make sure its military forces are loyal first and foremost to Britannia, even if they move on to cross-bloc forces. Proven loyalty outstrips competence in its relationship with upward mobility, all else being equal.

Major Characters

Cornelia li Britannia - Second Princess of the Britannian Union, Cornelia li Britannia is a formidable force on the battlefield and an experienced governmental official. In practice, she sets much of the tone for the Britannian Union.

Ralph Eifman - A principled commoner who leads up standard military weapons development in Britannia. His work has led to countless innovations, but he worries that Britannia doesn't do enough for its citizenry.

Lloyd Asplund - An earl who heads up mechanized infantry and urban warfare development in Britannia. Lloyd really only cares about science, and doing science, and having fun with science.

Emir Kramskoi - A pilot and research scientist with the Britannian Union. Her work in particle physics could push the field forward centuries, but has recently been stolen.

Key Questions

  • How do we make our peace with the world as it is?
  • Can a racist system even be saved in the first place?
  • How much do one person's contributions matter?
