Hayato Jin has, for all intents and purposes, hung up the pilot suit. Injured in the battles that ultimately saw New Yark destroyed in defense of humanity, Hayato kept his head down and submitted to any request from the Federation in the interest of keeping the peace. Hayato is utterly certain his mission is not over, and while he can no longer tolerate the immense G-forces inherent in piloting a Getter Machine, he works with NERV as a tactical coordinator and occasionally provides field support from afar. Despite Getter Ray research being banned, Hayato periodically returns to the Saotome Institute for long periods, and is evasive about why.
