MIDAS

MIDAS uses a gold isotope charged with Photon Power to catalyze a seemingly totally clean form of nuclear fission.

While theoretically useful for generating power, MIDAS holds great promise as a weapon of mass destruction.

When used as a weapon, MIDAS leaves a perfectly spherical blast radius; affected areas look as if something has been scooped out of the terrain with perfect precision. Its first battle deployment was against JOSH-A during Operation Spitbreak, though reports didn't agree on whether ZAFT stole a bomb system and used it or whether the Federation used it as a self-destruct system, with both sides accusing the other of the superweapon's use.
