Leon Sakaki hates fighters. Especially transforming ones. Born and raised into flying, unresolved trauma from a disastrous stint in the EFF and the subsequent death of his sister Mia has led Leon to the life of an underachiever test pilot in the SMS. Incapable of breaking the hold that fighters have on his life, Leon is left with no choice but to do the one thing he’s good at - fly. Still, he’d rather avoid excitement as much as possible - Leon is a bit of a slacker at heart. The life of a war-changing hero with a beautiful maiden singing a song of the stars in his cockpit is one he’d really prefer to be left to his coworkers. This doesn’t mean he’ll outright refuse the call to adventure, but it does mean it’ll probably come with a lot of whining about it. He’s also an expert at crash-landings. As the assigned pilot of the YF-25, a test unit with the experimental AI “Brunnhilde” on board, Leon lives a contradictory life as he struggles to reconcile his distaste for war with his desire to fly. Leon Sakaki hates fighters, but he might hate himself for flying them even more.
Background
Leon was born with the skies as his birthright, flying in his father’s ultralight since infancy. His father was a pilot, his sister was a pilot, and so it followed that Leon was a pilot too. However, the Sephira Incident completely changed his perspective on flying, as he saw the horrors of combat firsthand in an undeniably traumatic way. As a result of the Sephira Incident, Leon holds within himself a deep-seated resentment for mobile weapons and the war they represent, especially Valkyries. Unfortunately, flying is all he’s good at, and as much as he tries to deny it to himself, he still loves the rush of being free in the air. And hey, it does pay the bills.
Resources
Leon’s ill-fated time in the Earth Federation armed forces left him with plenty of scars. Unwilling to commit to an indescribably boring life as a civilian pilot and utterly unable to not fly, he joined the SMS, where his skills earned him candidacy for the role of YF-25 Prophecy’s pilot, an advanced fighter with a unique learning AI, Brunnhilde, onboard. Brunnhilde “chose” him, in a sense, and he’s been using the fighter to perform his standard duties as a member of the SMS.
