A normal person on a normal colony with a normal life. Not always the easiest life, not by any means - Lianne has had to work for her keep since she was young - but a normal one. And then her world came crashing down around her, as the presence of an experimental mobile suit drew conflict to her home. A comedy of error and circumstance led her to find what they were there for - and fall inside an unfamiliar cockpit.
What was originally a plan to just walk the thing out and hand it over so the battling factions would go away turned into desperate defense. The controls somehow felt… natural. Like she’d known how to use it her whole life. An inner voice urged her along with each strike. And when the dust settled, she was a witness to something NEUN would want nobody to know of, and the driver of an experimental and dangerous mobile suit. She didn’t have much choice but to go when another pilot offered safe harbor.
Background
Orphaned in the constant wars of Earth, Lianne was picked up at a very young age by the Republic of East Asia's 'Superhuman Research Institute'. The Institute was formed in order to carry out experiments in forcible awakening and other enhancement, in the name of creating super soldiers for the Republic. The experiments were traumatic, and during her time there a second personality awakened in Lianne's mind, going by Lira.
A sympathetic guard helped Lianne escape, but died in the process - but Lianne made it to Side 4, where she could try and live normally. Lira eventually seemed to fade, and took the memory of her traumatic youth with her, leaving Lianne with a hazy past but a far less volatile emotional state.
Resources
As horrific as the Superhuman Research Institute was, it did produce results. Aside from piloting Mobile Suits, Lianne has significantly enhanced strength, coordination, and reaction speeds, able to more than hold her own in a fight on foot if needs must. Lianne also has an eclectic array of practical skills as a result of her doing whatever work she could get money for to get by in the Frontier Side.
