AMBAC, or Active Mass Balance Auto-Control, allows for maneuvering in space with reduced expenditure of propellant. The unit automatically adjusts its limbs to provide the pilot's desired orientation.
The expenditure of propellant is still required to create movement; AMBAC is limited to reorienting a unit around its center of mass. More limbs generally improve a unit's usefulness in AMBAC maneuvering.
Prior to the development of AMBAC, this sort of orientation was performed manually by pilots using early space-use humanoid weapons like Variable Fighters. Today, most limbed units have the option of AMBAC tuning.
