  • Cast: Asciel Colette
  • Where: Isaac City
  • Date: U.C. 0096 10 26
  • Summary: A recollection of the measures it'd take to flip that switch from 0 to 1.

She is miraculous.

She is exhilarating, exciting, energizing and warm. She is a relic of a time that should have passed, one that seems distant and impossible to touch, which yet perseveres - in a way that the rest of humanity cannot hope to appreciate.

Her name is Ai Martel, and she is love.

Is that the right word? 'Love'?

Just thinking about it forced a new way of thinking about love. All the ways love was spoken of expressed that love sours with distance, with intangibility- and what is more painful than loving someone who was on the other end of an impossible divide?

Who, were it not for a miracle, would have never grazed touches to begin with?

Therefore, clearly...

It was an incorrect way to love.

-) Our coordination with [Cr] has been very fruitful, and for that, we are grateful.

-) But this message is being sent specifically to you for my own personal satisfaction, in seeing your performance with our dear Lambda Driver.

-) It’s been more than simply useful to you, hasn’t it? There’s a number of reasons to believe that it’s an active source of enjoyment in your case. Seeing you have as much fun as you do with it is a true delight.

-) Truthfully, the entire project’s been somewhat troublesome, I think. The activation conditions for the Lambda Driver inherently push most people far beyond their limits, and entrusting very valuable material to such agents has been, you'll agree, a troublesome enterprise. The data you've produced has told us much. The future of the Lambda Driver project is a bright one with you in it.

-) It’s interesting how that very same harmonic dysfunction which has been such a headache, instead drives you onward and gives you clarity.

-) I wonder. Just what is it that your personality can tell us? About this great mystery of the heart...

-) In any event, I have another proposal for you. Whether you share with the rest of [Cr] is at your discretion.

-) See the attached project files for Plan-1211. Much of it is redacted, do understand, but I take it an advanced intelligence like yourself would find its purpose obvious.

-) [Cr]’s mobile weapons R&D has, of course, been in large part about urban security and infiltration, if I’m not mistaken. Obviously, something like this has a much different purpose - a plan for weapons that can fully operate against human targets and act in human spaces.

-) At this juncture, our own AI development isn’t up to the task of unsupervised operation. That’s why we’re coming to you in particular for testing. We’d like high intensity combat tests and low intensity calibration alike.

-) I don't doubt you will make marvelous use of it.

-) Do let me know not just your opinion on its material utility to [Cr]’s interests, but also your own personal response.

-) You’re always such a breath of fresh air to talk to. ♥

-) Hmmm. I can’t say I’m at all upset at being a bit seen through. Keeping things close to my heart is important, but at the same time, it’s exciting when others can realize similar conclusions.

-) It’s definitely very exhilarating, though.

-) It’s definitely very affirming, though.

-) …I will say that I seem to write more internal personal logs each time I invoke that light to its fullest. Perhaps it’s because of the way my own light shines. None of it leaks out, so I have full freedom to harness it fully to this purpose.

-) As for your proposal…

-) Well. My first instinct is that it’s not really that elegant! It’s obviously too small to be compatible with the Driver, so it’s clearly not a project to that end. Not that I’m narrow-minded about it.

-) My analysis as an administrator sees a discrepancy with [Cr]’s interests. It’s not really for ‘infiltration’ in a social sense - nobody would mistake something like this for a human. I think you’ve failed to notice that it’s a bit of a hulking eight foot tall monster! It’s impressive that you’ve miniaturized AS technology, but it’s still so chunky and intimidating! Ahahahahah~

-) We value a very clear and obvious instillment of law and order, and our Armored Cores do well enough for overwhelming shows of force - and we haven’t really had problems on a human-to-human scale. Really, if a regular human with a well engineered gun and sturdy enough combat armor can’t solve a problem, it’s definitely something for mobile weapons to handle. I can see this having more value for fortified facilities that you need to leave intact for the most part, but [Cr]’s domain, there’s really nothing like that. Honestly, my opinion on ‘infiltration’ like that is…hard targets like that don’t have anything so worthwhile in them that they can’t just be razed to the ground.

-) …but your last request is wanting something a little different out of me, too.

-) …the way I present myself to others as a ‘face’ they can understand isn’t really an intent to be ‘on their level’ - it’s just because humans need that to bolster their empathy. It’s utilitarian. A projection.

-) Physically, there’s not much of a point! I’ve managed perfectly fine on using drones for any silly physical activity. It soooorta does well as presenting me like a shut-in seizing the latest technology to bridge that gap all the same. It’s a cute narrative!

-) …So I really don’t see much personal fulfillment in acting on a scale that interfaces with other humans.

-) For all material purposes, the gap between us is too wide. It’s not my role to live /among/ them.

-) You know that by now!

-) I think I’ll have to pass on this one. I’m hoping it’s not a project you were really really passionate about and saw the big importance of!

-) If it was, you probably should’ve said as much. You do realize you can’t really expect things from me if you’re cagey about them. That’s part of the divide. I can only know what you ask of me~! You’re a pretty convincing person, so I’m sure you’ll have a lot of clarifications imminently. Looking forward to that!

-) Hey! So this is a liiiiiittle embarrassing. You never got back to me about Plan-1211, so I just kinda assumed I was completely correct and it was too situational to pursue for the near future, and pretty much filed that one away purely as an idea reference.

-) Abooooout that.

-) …I’ve changed my mind.

-) I’ve found a very, very important purpose for it.

-) So I hope you have too, because now I’m going to be bending your ear an awful lot until I get to harness this useful thing you've created.

-) ...Do understand that it's incredibly important that I deviate from your blueprints just slightly.

-) You may think I'm adding superfluous aesthetics onto a carefully engineered design...

-) But those are the most crucial aspects of all.
