Shanghai Steel, Limited is an up-and-coming high-tech wanzer manufacturer. Founded in 0093, Shanghai Steel produces primarily for the local market, supplying a large number of REA machines, with relatively few exported elsewhere. Owned primarily by the Chinese government, they produce wanzers as well as other naval, air, and space vehicles.

Though it isn't known inside the REA, Shanghai Steel is thoroughly infiltrated at the upper levels by Amalgam due to the efforts of Bal Gorbovsky, and the company also produces several Imaginary Number-use wanzers. These machines are extremely difficult to use for unmodified humans for similar reasons as ZAFT's Coordinator-use machines are.
