Riika Sheder comes from humble origins, and has come a long way. Riika entered military training graduated as a mechanic and engineer, working as a pilot specializing in experimental equipment testing. In late 0096, Riika took actions during a ZAFT operation to warn both sides' combatants of a concealed superweapon and then began to look into its true provenance. This caused Rau le Creuset to guide ZAFT High Command to declare her a traitor and instigator of the disastrous results of Operation Spitbreak, and that she had secretly planted the bomb that she had later warned people about. Officially killed resisting arrest by le Creuset, her wreck was found by the Ra Mari, and she was one of the first PLANT-born pilots in the Three Ships Alliance to stop GENESIS. Though Riika is now known to be alive and her name has been officially cleared of its black mark, her time as a scapegoat and propaganda point means some members of both militaries are suspicious of her and her activities, especially as she is now a member of an extralegal military force. Despite this, she is upbeat, cheerful, and social, making friends easily. Having never had the benefits of a prestigious family or patron as is common for ZAFT officers, Riika feels she has to work extra hard, and a good deal of her 'talent' is being simply willing and able to put in hard effort and long hours. Riika lacks the sense of innate superiority that some Coordinators have, and works to make a bridge between Coordinator and Natural in the Three Ships Alliance and beyond; the war between ZAFT and the Federation military may have drawn to a close, but the social conflict between PLANTs and Federation citizens is far from over.

A Coordinator born to a family that had been on the PLANTs since they had been a slum, Riika entered military training on merit and scholarships rather than family connections. She earned the right to wear a red ZAFT uniform due to her excellent placement and chose test piloting as her field... immediately before the Bloody Valentine Conflict broke out and she volunteered for active combat duty, determined to protect the citizens of the PLANTs from a second attack. Determined to do her best in all things, Riika is diligent or stubborn depending on who you ask. Without the benefits of a prestigious Coordinator family or patron, she feels she has had to work for everything on her own; her 'talent' is mostly being willing and able to put in effort and long hours. She is upbeat, cheerful, and social, making friends easily. Coming from an impoverished background, Riika lacks the sense of innate superiority that some of her comrades-in-arms are afflicted with; she has no problem with Naturals, only with the treatment of the PLANTs by Earth. Complications in her genetic manipulation process left her blind from birth without assistance aids. She is also sensitive about her (lack of) height and eternal babyface - much more so about those than her eyesight.
