  • Summary: Shortly after losing her job at the Hobby MS shop, Emilia calls up her boss at the maid cafe to see if she could get some extra shifts. Instead, a different job offer comes up.

"N-no, I uhm. I u-un-understand. Thank you f-for, uhm, l-letting me work th-there so long."

Emilia Eschonbach pressed the hang up button on her phone, and sat on her bad, her whole body sagging. Business wasn't good enough to keep her on, huh?

...It made sense, honestly. An Eleven- no, a Japanese business owner would put their Japanese employees first, over some random Britannian girl. Maybe the bribes to the Knightpolice got cheaper than keeping her around on raids. Maybe the local Yakuza were actually offering protection now.

Either way it meant she was down to one part time job. The Maid Cafe Grand Prix meant she was getting shifts but... not really enough.

Still, maybe she could ask for more. She dialed her boss's number.

"Um, hello, s-sir." Her voice still quavered. "I w-w-was wondering if. Th-there were any shifts this week?"

Her face fell on hearing the answer. "No, I. I-It's okay, I-"

She blinked. "Y-yeah, I c-c-could do. Um. Late sh-shifts. Not all the time. ...You n-need someone at your. O-Other business?"

She listened intently as her boss spoke, but a look of concern crossed her face. "I'm not r-r-really... Oh! Y-yes, I th-think I could do th-that. Y-yeah, that's... Tonight?"

Emilia pulled up the calendar on her other phone. Empty. As roughly expected. "...Yeah, I c-can come tonight. Okay. Th-thank you v-very much!"

She hung up the phone. Getting home from Sakae late and night wouldn't be too tricky- dangerous but... not any more than being a Black Knight.

She pulled the suitcase that contained her own clothes out from under the bed. A black vest and a white blouse... she could manage those. Tending bar at a Cabaret Club would arguably be easier than the cafe. At least she wasn't being asked to be a hostess...
