  • Cast: Anita Rosetta, Eight York
  • Where: Ra Mari II
  • OOC - IC Date: U.C. 0097 05 18
  • Summary: After being requested to rest, Eight decides to catch up with a friend. She gives Anita the big news, and they talk about recent events and the ways they're both moving forward in their lives.

<Pose Tracker> Anita Rosetta has posed.

It's been a hard day's work. Anita completed her sweep of the colony, and a second, for good measure. Her search was fruitful, at least. The colony may be on borrowed time, but they're doing their best to ensure that the survivors are well taken care off.

It's the next day now, and Anita has finished up her own duties for today. She's exhausted - she hadn't even gotten to her room before collapsing into her couch with a sigh. You can tell she's a little drained because she hasn't bothered switching out of her uniform yet in favor of more casual clothing, though she has at least unzipped it a little. Still... it's a good kind of exhausted, and she's satisfied with what they've managed to accomplish. What happened was a tragedy... but if they hadn't been there, it could've been so much worse.

Her room is... noticeably more bare than some might remember. Her things have largely been boxed up in preparation for moving into her shared room with Rena, so only the essentials are left out and about. At present, the door is unlocked, and things look welcoming.

<Pose Tracker> Eight York has posed.

Much of the crew is probably exhausted, and there's still a lot of refugees on board until they can finish getting them all to shelter in other places. Some of them may end up sticking around, with nowhere else to go. That's all for later, though. Today, it's the day after the mission, and Eight is trying to ensure that people who need rest rest. ...But as she's been informed, that includes herself.

But going to talk to her best friends about things is like resting, right?

"Annie!" Eight announces herself, and as she sets her hand on the door to knock, she's surprised to find it opening instead, leaving her seeing Anita in a very bare room.

"Ooh," Eight says. "Definitely almost ready to move, huh?" she asks. She smiles, though she looks serious a moment later. "How are you feeling? I know yesterday was rough."

If she happens to have her hands together covering the left one, surely that's a coincidence.

<Pose Tracker> Anita Rosetta has posed.

Anita sits up, just a little, as she hears the sound of footsteps approaching the room. And it isn't long before she's greeted by...

"Hey there, Eight." Anita greets, offering a lazy wave as Eight enters. She scoots to the side, offering her some room on the couch, and then chuckles at her observation.

"Yup. Just waiting for the paperwork to finalize, then to finish up room plannin' with Rena." She confirms. She looks pleased at the idea. She considers, though, when Eight asks how she's feeling.

"I'm pretty beat." She admits with a shrug, even though she's smiling. "Not in a bad way, mind you. It was rough, and I still feel bad for Rita, but... I'm proud of us. We did good yesterday."

Her attention, at the moment, isn't on her hands - she doesn't yet notice anything different.

<Pose Tracker> Eight York has posed.

"Great!" Eight answers cheerfully. "Like I said before, I think it'll go great for both of you." She is also pleased at the idea! And, for that matter, at Anita's answer to the matter of how she's feeling. She is, after all, pretty tired herself--now that she's closer, Anita might notice the concealer under her eyes that makes her look less tired than she is.

Eight smiles at her, a little more gently because it's not a broad grin sort of moment. "I agree. We did what we could, and we should celebrate that. I'm proud of you, too. You really did great out there, especially against an opponent like that--and then, right after the battle, still looking for survivors."

Eight comes to take a seat, lowering herself carefully instead of just flopping down like she might've otherwise; she's still in uniform, the maternity jacket more of a short dress than a jacket. "Then... In that case," Eight says, drawing it out a little, "I have some news!" Pause. "More news."

<Pose Tracker> Anita Rosetta has posed.

"I think so too. I'm really lookin' forward to it." Anita replies with a smile toward Eight. If Eight says so, that's a good sign. She does notice the concealer - and elects not to comment on it. It's not too much of a surprise that Eight would be pushing herself, with everything that's been going on.

"Yeah." Anita agrees as Eight says they did what we could - and that they should celebrate it. She chuckles, though, as she says she's proud of her. "Thanks. I did what I could with what I had, y'know?"

She smiles, then, and points Eight's way.

"And I'm proud of you, too - a lot of people out there have your quick thinkin' and decision makin' to count on for being alive today." She says. Eight takes a seat, and Anita looks on curiously as she says she has more news. Anita raises an eyebrow - she can tell she's excited. "Oh yeah? Lay it on me."

<Pose Tracker> Eight York has posed.

Eight is serious about focusing on those good things--so Anita and Rena's plans definitely qualify. And she, at least, loves living with one of her partners. ...And admittedly she is pushing herself. But they all are, at least for today.

She smiles again, tilting her head to look Anita's way. "You did!" And then--point?? Eight looks surprised for a moment--and then hr surprises breaks into a quiet appreciation for her crew. "Thank you," she says. "I do my best for everyone. They do it for me, so... I owe it to them to do the same for them."

She lets out a breath--and then Anita gives her the signal, so... Eight extends her left hand, fingers together but flattened out, to display the ring there. A traditional diamond, with two pink diamonds in much smaller form on either side, with a gold band. Her engagement ring still sits on her hand exactly where Lavhi put it last night.

"He proposed!!" Eight enthuses happily. "Last night. I came back so tired, but he just--well, he picked me up and put me on the couch and got on one knee," she says fondly, and laughs a little at the first part. "It was... really perfect."

"We still have to talk about the details, of course. But I'm getting married!"

<Pose Tracker> Anita Rosetta has posed.

Anita smiles as Eight accepts the praise, and she nods.

"And you do a good job of it, I say. That's why we know we can rely on you to make the right calls." She replies.

Eight lets out a breath - and then extends her left hand, on which is a beautiful ring. Anita stares - it takes a second for it to click and then her eyes open wide. She can take a guess - and then, Eight confirms it for real.

"He did??" Anita replies, surprised. She listens as Eight explains how it happened. A smile crosses her face and she laughs, good naturedly, as she massages the back of her neck. "Geez. He literally swept you off your feet. You musta been thrilled. Wow, though... Dang. I gotta say, he sure knows how to do it..."

They have to talk about the details, but... she's getting married. Anita offers Eight a great big smile.

"Congrats, Eight. I'm real happy for you. This is a pretty big deal!" She says - and, if Eight seems okay with it, leans over to give her a congratulatory hug!

<Pose Tracker> Eight York has posed.

Eight smiles. It's hard to accept praise sometimes, in situations like this, but she knows Anita's not the type to give it if she doesn't mean it, too. So she accepts it with grace. And then Anita's eyes open, and Eight confirms, and--

"He did!" The blonde enthuses. "He did that, too," she laughs a little. "I love it when he does that. He really does! I've been waiting for a while, but he decided 'how could it be other than now'? and well..."

She beams, and Eight is completely okay with a very big hug. It's mostly from the shoulders, since she's sitting down on the couch, but Eight sighs against Anita. "Thank you," she says. "I've... I hoped for this, you know?" She sniffs once, and doesn't notice she's starting to cry immediately. "I'm just so happy. We're thinking of September, offhand? I know i'll be really really pregnant by then but it's our anniversary..."

"And it's going to take some time to plan! And a lot to do. And I don't know what I'm going to do yet for venue, or anything like that, maybe here on the ship? Still, I--"

"You'll be there, won't you? I'll send inviations and everything, but I want you there, for sure. And I--"

Now she notices she's started crying. "Aah," Eight complains.

<Pose Tracker> Anita Rosetta has posed.

Anita laughs right along with Eight. It must be pretty nice, she figures.

"I guess... sometimes, doin' it spur of the moment is best." Anita considers. Eight accepts the hug and Anita is pleased.

"No problem." She replies - and her smile softens. "...Yeah. Yeah, I know you have. And I'm real glad you're gettin' the chance. You deserve it."

Eight doesn't notice that she's starting to cry - but Anita does, so she gently pats her back.

"In that case, September sounds great. It'll be a good time for capturin' memories." Anita replies. There will be a lot of time for planning. Anita nods. "Well, you've got time to figure it out."

She grins, then, as Eight asks if she'll be there.

"Of course I will be. You know I'd do anything in my power to be there for you, right?" She replies - and then laughs good-naturedly, as Eight finally notices that she's been crying.

"Hey, it's okay." Anita says, offering her a reassuring smile. "It's only normal to cry about somethin' big like this, right?"

<Pose Tracker> Eight York has posed.

"Yes!" Eight agrees. "We'd talked about it before, of course. But we never committed to actually doing it until now. We had to talk about it, because I had to make sure of how Rena would feel, and..."

And Anita knows, and Eight cries a little harder at that, because she really does. "Thank you,"she answers her.

"Yes! There'll be a lot of memories... and it's another thing to look forward to in all of this. I think it'll be wonderful." And they do have time to figure it out. But Eight asks, and Anita's answer apparently satisfies her, as she pulls back to smile gratefully back at her. "I know. But it's still good to hear it. And, ah..." Normal, is it? "I guess that's true!" Eight answers of it, "But it's still a little embarrassing... Hormones, right?" She reaches for a pocket for a handkerchief, but her makeup is still holding out for the moment.

"I want the ship to be a home, for everyone to get to live their lives, even as we try to make this world better... I really want that."

<Pose Tracker> Anita Rosetta has posed.

"Yeah, I get that." Anita replies with a nod. There's always a lot to consider in something like that - especially when you have someone else's thoughts and feelings to take into consideration, too.

Eight cries harder as she confirms that she knows, and Anita smiles in response to her thanks.

"Definitely. I think it'll be great." Anita agrees. They need everything to look forward to that they can get - little moments that make the world shine brighter, make it feel more worth living in, even for just an instant. She grins, as Eight confirms that she knows - and then laughs. "Yup."

She wants the ship to be a home...

"That's really good, I think - and you're doin' a good job of that." Anita replies. "What we're doin'... it don't mean a thing if we throw away our everyday lives in the process, right?"

<Pose Tracker> Eight York has posed.

She wouldn't want Rena to feel pressured or pushed away; on the other hand, this is something she does really want, too. Eight brushes some hair out of her face, lifting up her eyes to dab at them with the handkerchief to avert at least some of the coming disaster for her put-together face.

But she looks back down again, "Good. I... Well, I don't know what I want, yet. Something big where people can get together? Something smaller, so it's not so overwhelming? We'll have to figure it out. Either way, I want it to be nice. And I'll efinitely have to have a reception for the crew..."

But what she wants for the ship is a dear hope of hers, and Anita telling her she's doing it well prompts a smile. "Exactly," she says. "It's noble to live for others, and to try to live for the future... But our lives matter, too."

The world we live in... has to be one we can live in." Another sniffle. She can't quite help it.

"So we're both moving forward. I think... that's really good." She smiles lopsidedly. "So let's keep doing our best."

<Pose Tracker> Anita Rosetta has posed.

Anita considers the options, nodding to herself. There's merits to doing things either way.

"Yeah, that's a tough one. I know you'll figure it out, though." Anita replies consideringly, and then smiles. "I know it'll be a day worth remembering either way."

It's noble to live for others, to try to live for the future... but their lives matter, too. Anita nods, smiling as Eight continues.

"Well said." She concurs, chuckling just a little as she sniffles.

"Yeah, we are. And I couldn't be happier for us." She agrees - and then grins. "Definitely. I know we will."
