Grand Glorious Guard
The Grand Glorious Guard is the new incarnation of 3G. Formerly the Gutsy Geoid/Galaxy Guard, they are a group bent on stopping science criminals and threats to sentient life in the Galaxy. Following an acrimonious split with NERV, the Grand Glorious Guard occupies the Frontier Zone of Side 4, with their main base being in the colony of Tsutsujidai. GGG has an awkward relationship with NUNE. Through a deal with Cathedra, GGG are permitted to operate autonomously on science crime matters within the Earth Sphere and are given a relatively generous remit on that authority… provided that they stick to that remit.
The Grand Glorious Guard consists of three branches: 3G Green, led by Chief Guy Shishioh, 3G Blue, led by Chief Shigeru Akamatsu and 3G Red, led by Chief Rikka Takarada. The three branches are overseen by Special Chief Koutaro Taiga.
3G Blue is focused on Science Crime Prevention and Law Enforcement, consisting of the former 3G Blue and the Brave Police. In this role, they have a small posting in the OCU, where they focus on preventing the criminal actions of BioNet and protecting their victims.
3G Green, meanwhile, focuses on external threats to Earth Sphere - alien invaders such as the Jovian Lizards, the Vajra and the Anti-Earth Cooperative Federation. 3G Green consists primarily of the former Gutsy Geoid/Galaxy Guard. In the interests of their mission, 3G Green also contains a space exploration division- a passion of their chief.
3G Red is the newest branch of the Grand Glorious Guard, made up of the former Gridman Alliance, former Build Base operatives and a number of new recruits. 3G Red’s mandate is built around dealing with incidents like Tsutsujidai and the Kyushu Zone. As a result, they have a special interest in the operations of aliens infiltrating the Earth Sphere, dimensional incursions, and Omnisphere related threats.
In some cases, the Grand Glorious Guard may receive pressure to defend the OCU, as much of the OCU’s funding goes to GGG, but it’s a fine line to walk. Too much, and NUNE might decide that the fake coup of 0090 wasn’t so far from the truth after all.
Major Characters
Koutarou Taiga - Special Chief of the Grand Glorious Guard, Koutarou Taiga has been facing science crime and existential threats to the Earth Sphere for most of his adult life, and is still trying to make amends for being one under the control of Triple Zero. While Taiga rarely enters the field himself, preferring to oversee operations from the Big Order Room, he remains a hands-on leader, even though he now has three chiefs under him.
Shigeru Akamatsu - Having been a commander on the frontlines against Algernon and Triple Zero, one would forgive Shigeru Akamatsu for wanting to finally retire and spend time with his daughter - but Shigeru Akamatsu is a man who doesn’t seem to have any intention of letting his juniors take over yet. Boisterous and energetic, Akamatsu actually is in the process of preparing a replacement, but they’ll have to meet his high standards first.
Guy Shishioh - At one time the youngest astronaut in the Earth Sphere, Guy Shishioh nearly died in a collision with the Zonderian Pasdar, and nearly lost his life countless times fighting the Zonderians, the Primevals, the Sol Masters and Triple Zero. Now merely a semi-Evoluder, Guy’s passion for space exploration has led to the creation of a Deep Space division of 3G, but he still carries the heart of a Brave, and is prepared to fight for those he cares about, no matter what.
Rikka Takarada - The young Chief of the newly formed 3G Red, Rikka Takarada found herself forged in the fires of the Tsutsujidai incident, battles alongside the Shuffle Alliance, and the wicked plots of the Vist Foundation. Rikka leads with compassion, but also a canny head for strategy and an unorthodox approach suited to the Grand Glorious Guard. While she has yet to match the achievements of her fellow chiefs, she is also already well positioned to surpass them.
Jana Cektru - A special advisor to the Grand Glorious Guard, Jana Cektru came from beyond the Solar System to learn of the Earth beloved of a late friend of the Macross Fleets. In the years since, Jana has had ample opportunity to walk away from Earth, but she has steadfastly refused. This world may not be her home, but it is worth defending, and Jana will help the younger species do just that.
Alouette Pommier - Genetically engineered to become the scion of BioNet, Alouette's life took a drastic turn when the Gutsy Galaxy Guard rescued her. Although she was struck with amnesia shortly after developing GaoFighGar's Final Fusion program, the return of her memories and resolve led her to the new Gutsy Global Guard years later. Her sharp wit and mechanical mastery is but one of the Mobile Unit's keys to victory.
Key Questions
- Is it right to maintain an uneasy alliance to save those you otherwise couldn’t?
- What do you lose when you try to save everyone else?
- What will you do to stop it getting as bad this time?
Tension Points With Other Factions
Gaia Sabers: 3G represents an absolutely enormous amount of power, control, and response time that simply cannot be allowed to non-NUNE nations. The Gaia Sabers don't want general NUNE war with the OAC and OCU, but will absolutely obstruct, lean on technologically, and *will* shoot when they can get away with it or when operating under deniable conditions.
Space Assembly League: There's no significant barrier between these groups and their goals at the moment. However, their reliance on unquantifiables represents a long-term irreconcilable ideological clash with SAL leader Gilbert Durandal.
Cathedra: The relationship between Cathedra and the Grand Glorious Guard is tense but not unfriendly in the least. The Grand Glorious Guard-Cathedra partnership is one of the last chances either organization has to reach into the other's territory or share intelligence, and they share similar understandings of the world. A lot could break down, however, if the NUNE were to start aggressing more against the OCU and former OAC.
NERV: While many individual members of the Grand Glorious Guard and NERV are close friends, the organizations ultimately end up in a position where they compete as much as they coexist. NERV's presence as a geographically close, high-density NUNE-allied fortress city right next to the OCU's two Tokyos doesn't help matters much.
Terminal: There's actually a lot of mutual acceptance here! Many Terminal types are personal associates with Grand Glorious Guard personnel, and without NUNE in the way, they can cooperate a little. On the other hand, 3G *is* a really large organization throwing around a lot of money with very mixed checks on itself.
Dawn of Fold: It's kind of an open question if Dawn of Fold is just BioNet again, given the everything. The technology Dawn of Fold uses raises some questions that are in the wheelhouses of both 3G Blue and 3G Red.
Satellicon: Again, there's a lot of old comrades here -- and unlike NERV, the Grand Glorious Guard isn't wrapped up with NUNE nearly as closely. However, 3G is not as forthcoming with intelligence as Satellicon might like, and the extreme actions with low oversight might make 3G a little squirmy.
BioNet: This relationship has not changed since the 0070s. Do you think it's going to change now????
Anti-Earth Cooperative Federation: Yeah there's really no ambiguity about the whole "we're dropping space battle robot beasts on Tokyo" "we're going to hit them with the biggest hammer ever made" thing. There's a little wobble when it comes to organizations like ZAFT remnants or the Space Revolutionary Army, but like, is there really?
Yaman Rebellion: Slightly less unfriendly than above owing mostly to the small scale of the Yaman Rebellion. However, the burden of proof is a little bit on the rebels here to prove that they're not every bit as much "a big space war spilling out into the Earth Sphere" as the AECF.
