The AXIS Specter is an experimental unit built for the Crescent mercenary organization, utilizing cutting edge technology like an optical cloak, communication hijacking, and a minimal energy cost for its wide variety of weapons by relying on ultra-low temperatures instead of costly beam weaponry. It requires a Newtype to pilot, and the psycommu system boosts awareness and psychic senses to skim the strong emotions of other pilots, providing both detection and predictive targeting. The Specter has no legs because it was designed for space-only combat, and relies on expelling freezing gas jets instead of verniers to reduce its thermal output and allow for pin-point maneuvers and motionless evasions. Overall, the Specter is a weapon of stealth combat and psychological warfare, meant to inspire fear in the enemies of Zeon by faking so-called "ghostly" phenomenon. However, it has costs associated with its use. Because of how experimental it is, it uses a cooled cockpit to reduce the pilot's vitals and obscure them from other Newtypes and thermal sensors instead of using a full psychoframe. This puts the pilot at risk if they continue to pilot it for too long, and injections of anti-freezing chemicals have to be administered in advance. As a result, the effective deployment time for the Specter once it begins combat is only about ten minutes. Further, it relies heavily on built-in cryogenic gas tanks for both maneuvering and many of its weapons. This finite resource having to be split in use between those two functions means rationing must be handled carefully to avoid becoming helpless.
