Developing machines intended primarily for killing people requires a certain level of sociopathy, and Lloyd Asplund has that in spades. He treats people more as tools rather than individuals in the pursuit of scientific advancement, and he has little regard for social norms if they get in the way of his work. Despite his shortcomings as a person, Lloyd's brilliance as an inventor and his achievements as a scientist for the Britannian Union are undeniable. Lloyd is almost always accompanied by his assistant, Cecille Croomy, whose straight-laced normalcy has kept his more extravagant plans in check ever since they began working together years ago. Cecile is a skilled pilot and scientist in her own right, acting both as a sounding board for Lloyd's wilder ideas to refine them into something workable as well as playing the part of the enforcer when Lloyd's mouth gets too far ahead of him.
