News about the war lately has been reporting how ZAFT has been turning its focus more towards defensive strategies. On Earth, their offensives have essentially come to a halt. Some of their forces have even given up territory in favor of falling back to more defensible positions. Meanwhile in space, the situation is much the same, with numerous ships typically on long range patrol or used to strike at Federation positions falling back to the PLANTs to apparently buff its defenses. Strategic experts suggest this is a combination of the losses they suffered at JOSH-A as well as the recent occupation of a PLANT by Federation forces. The former reduced their forces significantly, which only increased the already noticeable gap in numbers between the two sides. While the latter has shown the weakness in the defenses of the PLANTs, which appears to have caused ZAFT to scramble to close any holes that might be exploited. However, ZAFT hasn't given up on attacking completely. In fact, recent news report a successful attack by a ZAFT strike team against the Britannian Union's Panama base. The strike team was not large enough to capture or destroy the base. However it was successful in destroying the base's Mass Driver. Losing one of these rare structures used for delivering cargo and ships into orbit has impacted supply lines. Particularly at a critical point where the Federation appears to be increasing the amount of war materials it's sending into space.
