After the First Neo Zeon War, several Zeon veterans drifted from one remnant force to another before eventually joining the Sleeves. Many of these pilots brought their mobile suits with them, and the Dreissen was among the most common. Based on other hover-capable MS such as the Dom, Rick Dias, and Dwadge, the Dreissen is maneuverable and well armored. The Sleeves routinely upgrade any newly arrived Dreissens for higher performance, and issue it new weapons. While the tri-barrel beam cannons and tri-blades (a set of throwable whirling blades capable of flying along very unusual arcs) are retained, the other weapons are replaced by a heat saber and giant bazooka. These put the Dreissen in a new role as a heavy attack mobile suit, one well suited to attacking battleships and other large targets. The Dreissen thus has a special place in the Sleeves' arsenal, one not easily filled by most mobile suits that focus on beam weapons. In a show of good will, the Sleeves have shared the specifications for upgrading Dreissens with ZAFT.
