Heavy Metal L-Gaim is a 1984 anime created and directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, with mecha designs by Mamoru Nagano. Somewhat more light-hearted and optimistic than Mobile Suit Gundam Zeta, which aired just one year later, it features a cast of colourful characters and an aesthetic that's reminiscent of both Star Wars and 80s hair metal.

Heavy Metal L-Gaim

In the Pentagona System, in the calendar year of 3975, Oldna Posaydal and his 24 Temple Knights defeat Kamon Walha V, ruler of the Yaman Clan, and complete his conquest of the system. Putting the rest of the Yaman Clan to the sword, the newly-fledged tyrant is unaware that Walha V hid his heir away to protect him. Fifteen years later, that young man, calling himself Daba Myroad, travels the Pentagona System with the legendary white Heavy Metal ''L-Gaim'' on a quest to unite the system's struggling bands of rebels against Posaydal's rule into an army to topple the despot's reign.

Integration Notes

The following are some notes about how the show has been integrated here, and what adjustments have been made.

- As the Posaydal regime is an ally and member of the Zuvorg Alliance, naturally Daba's rebellion is called to oppose more than just Posaydal's goals, though the ruler of Pentagona is their primary focus. Fortunately, they have allies who are willing to shoulder the burden of fighting other elements of the Zuvorg.

- In order to facilitate the ability to travel through the setting, integration of L-Gaim begins after Daba's people have acquired the ''Turner'' transport shuttle, which functions as their home base and one of the member ships of the Yaman Rebellion fleet. This means that we join the show ''in medias res'', with the events up to episode 22 'Quwasan Olibee' having already occured.
