The Organization of African Consolidation
The Organization of African Consolidation includes all of Africa save for Senegal (which serves as neutral Federation territory) and Egypt. Rather than a single supranational union in itself, the Organization of African Consolidation comprises five sub-blocs that have existed since the unrest near the start of the Universal Century: the South African United States, West Africa Community Union, Community of Central African States, and Union of North African States. The OAC controls one Orbital Elevator, La Tour.
Political Situation
OAC citizens remember being exploited and abused even after the advent of the Federation system, and accordingly, their interest in defending the system is fairly low. The average citizen is disenchanted with the Federation at best, and some even see more common cause with ZAFT than with the rest of the Federation. The money that comes in from hosting the Federation Assembly in Dakar only goes so far.
The OAC is extremely not excited to go to war -- not as a government and not as a citizenry. It is perfectly content to hole up in its very well-defended cities and wait this one out.
Sub-Blocs
South African United States (SAUS)
The South African United States (SAUS) is an administrative area of the Organization of African Consolidation. Historically close to the Oceania Cooperative Union, the South African United States were the core of the previous South African Union, and still enjoy some of the benefits of being among the larger constituent economies within the bloc. They remain OCU-friendlier than the average OAC bloc into the present; trade with the OCU funds Johannesburg's defenses.
West Africa Community Union (WA)
The West Africa Community Union (WA) is an administrative area of the Organization of African Consolidation. While not as economically prosperous as the South African United States, the WA enjoys extensive Federation backing thanks to its concession of Senegal as a neutral Federation meeting ground. While military and economic power concentrates in the SAUS, diplomatic power within the OAC sits in WA.
Community of Central African States (CA)
The Community of Central African States (CA) is an administrative area of the Organization of African Consolidation. As one of the two constituent bodies with direct access to the Orbital Elevator, CA enjoys robust connections to space-related industries. They are particularly friendly with the OCU, due to assistance during Africa's brief Balkanization in the late 0010s. While officially, nothing is going on, CA is almost certainly one of the Black Knights' financial backers.
East African Community (EA)
The East African Community (EA) is an administrative area of the Organization of African Consolidation. As one of the two constituent bodies with direct access to the La Tour Orbital Elevator, EA enjoys robust connections to space-related industries. EA has been the most stable area of the OAC, with no notable battles or even continuity of government issues during Africa's brief Balkanization in the late 0010s; areas like Ethiopia and Kenya are rated some of the safest places to live in the world, even accounting for the One Year War and the Impact Wars.
Union of North African States (UNAS)
The Union of North African States (UNAS) is an administrative area of the Organization of African Consolidation. Due to its close geographic proximity to the AEU, UNAS was the most hesitant about kicking the Europeans out of Africa during the 0010s, and the most excited to return to the bargaining table during truth and reconciliation talks in the 0040s. Accordingly, it enjoys robust trade with the AEU and the greatest return on its investment in the AEU's research sector.
Much of the UNAS's territory has been occupied by ZAFT, though the occupation is... surprisingly cordial; there is a rumor that the UNAS put up only a token resistance and actually wants to collaborate with ZAFT, given how little defense it mustered and how gentle the occupation has been.
Holdings of Note
Johannesburg
A major city in South Africa. During the South African Union era, Johannesburg became a major fortification, and has yet to be successfully invaded.
Artemis
An asteroid base in Federation space. Previously thought to be impregnable, but recently embarrassed by ZAFT forces.
